Pennsylvania Casinos

Heading out to Baltimore in late spring. We plan to stop in Pennsylvania for a couple of nites on the way there or back.We are coming from Michigan. Any info on Casinos would be appreciated!!! We are primarily slot and VP players. Thanks, Bob
Slots are slots
They have pennies up to 100
VP is mostly 8/5 JOB with some 9/5 mixed in
Did you have any specific casinos in mind?

Assuming that you will be taking I-76 through PA you will pass the Rivers casino and Meadows casino in the Pittsburgh area. Rivers is in downtown Pittsburgh and Meadows is about 30 minutes from Rivers but off the path to Baltimore.

Both are decent for a few hour visit. They are a nice size with tables and slots. Sorry I have no specifics on VP but both have a good variety of slots. If I had to choose one over the other it would Rivers casino. More option of other things to do since you are in downtown Pittsburgh.

If you are taking !-76 through PA I can't think of any other casinos that would not be far off path. If you take 80 instead you will be in the area of Mohegun Sun in Wilkes-Barre and the Sands casino in Bethlehem. Both are really nice but taking 80 is a much longer drive to Baltimore.

We are actually planning to stay for two nites in PA. I noticed on Mapquest that the 76 route would be the shortest,so nearer the two mentioned. Of those, which has a nicer"atmosphere",and better comp program? Thanks, Bob

The Rivers downtown wins over The Meadows for overall atmosphere. It looks/feels more like a vegas-style casino.

I don't have many details on comps as I only play at either one sporadically and just for a few hours (we go to Caesar's WIndsor much more often). Both often have promotions with giveways after earning a certain number of points on your card. Last time I was at The Rivers (in July) they had an ongoing promotion - if someone hit a jackpot of $1,000 or more everyone with their players card in a slot won $5.00 freeplay. It took only 5-10 minutes for the freeplay to appear on my card after the announcement was made that someone hit $1,000 or more. You could then play the freeplay right away.

Some more details on both -
The Rivers has free soft drinks at stations in various parts of the casino. There is a nice bar w/vp in the center of the casino (no comped drinks though). There is a buffet (never tried it) and a small deli/bakery.

The Meadows is a racino. No free soft drinks here. There is a food court with 4-5 different restaurants to choose from. There is also a really nice upscale bowling alley downstairs. It is owned by the compnay that owns Cannery, Rampart and Eastside Cannery in LV. Not sure if their players card is linked to those though.

If you are spending a few nights in PA I and plan on focusing on these two casinos I suggest staying at hotels near The Meadows (the one just outside of Pittsburgh). There are several right next to the casino. Most were built after the casino was added to the horse track. Those would probably be cheaper than a hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. It's only 30 minutes between the two casinos.

If you are staying at one of the hotels by The Meadows there is a third casino about 35 minutes away in West Virginia - Wheeling Island. It is almost on a direct path from The Meadows down Route 40. However, this is not the same class casino as the other two. It's another racino, but smaller and very smokey.

Hey Akron Al, thanks for the good info.Who owns the Rivers Casino? That sounds like the one we will stay near. we really like Ceasars Windsors, heads and shoulders better than any in Detroit! Bob
I'm not sure who owns Rivers. Iit's none of the big guys (CET, MRI, Penn, etc.)

If you are staying near The Rivers (downtown Pittsurgh) you may be interested in checking out the Andy Warhol musuem (nearby) and the Church Brew Works. It's a decommissioned Catholic church that is now a restaurant and brewery. The pews have been turned in to booths and all of the beer making equipment is on the "altar". The rest of the church is intact (stained glass windows, organ in the balcony, etc). It's really something to see and the food & beer are both really good. if you google Church Brew Works it will come up right away. It's not far by car from The Rivers.

I'm beginiing to sound like I work for Piittsburgh Travel & Tourisim
