Revel Going Bankrupt

I just read in the local paper that the Revel is filing for bankruptcy this month.

Is anyone here really surprised?

I for one really wanted to become a Revel "regular" It is like the shinny new car that is a must have.
Besides, my wife and kids, who are not gamblers, keep saying to me "Why can't we stay there"

You all know the answer. IF IT AIN'T COMPED, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT"

I did my best to get on the radar screen. Opened a big credit line, played several days of baccarat black chip action, showed them my black label card from Borgata, and some others. Still ,no love.

So why exactly do I , as a serious player, (forgetting the wife and kids who I only bring to AC once a year)
give a rats ass about Revel.

RIP

It's all about location, .... Location, ...... LOCATION,

and in this case, as with all the other Atlantic City casinos, .............. they are not located in Las Vegas.

Rick
would agree on LOCATION with a different twist-----the pennsylvania casinos have taken away a good deal of ac business and are now the 2nd highest gambling revenue venue behind nevada, bypassing new jersey[ac]---

the revel was in a big financial hole before they opened their doors----trying to be a final destination resort----like one employee at resorts told me, this is ac not the caribbean or vegas----no buffet,no day-bus customers,no full pay video-poker and no smoking policy doesn't help their bottom line---look for changes under new mgmt----

I agree that they will probably be making changes,
but they might not be making them to make the place more gambler and tourist friendly.
I would guess the changes might be in reducing staff and salaries.

Rick

I visited them only once, had to go see the new place. I won $500 and left. It was nice, good drink service, but I was not really comfortable there, and never got any mailings from them. I play where my business is appreciated. Although now, offers from the Tropicana have stopped too
Hey Now!
they are willing to give me $5 a week in free play!
Imagine!
I have read several articles in the last couple of days about the changes that are supposedly taking place at Revel.

Changing the smoking policy is just one of them.

Below is a link to one of the articles I read.

Spent a night there this week - got a comped Friday with one day's notice and the reservation host offered to book next Friday for me (Memorial Day weekend) at the time, but I live in ATL, so I can't just hop in the car and drive there.
But that's telling, no?
Anyway, I had forgotten how nice their rooms are (though now that Borgata has remodeled, they are comparable). But wow, talk about a dead casino.
I played VP there for several hours on Friday afternoon and I could count the people on the floor. Felt really bad for the scantily clad young lady gyrating overhead at Royal Jelly at 5 p.m. since I was the only person in the vicinity and I'm not exactly the target audience!
Night time picked up a bit, but it's still a ghost town compared to Borgata or Showboat or Harrah's. Such a shame. It's such a lovely property but they managed to alienate core gamblers with their arrogance of no buffet, no comps (in the beginning), no player's lounge for high-level card holders, unmarked restaurants (because that's so hip) and no affordable/quick eats restaurants, and frankly, I don't think letting the smokers have a spot is going to change much while pissing off players like me who really only liked to play there BECAUSE of the non-smoking element.
Will be interesting to see how the year turns out for them.
I think the problem is the property is just so expensive to maintain. They need a Borgata sized crowd just to keep the place running. I really think they thought it would be a destination resort...like people from all over the country (in fact the world) would actually fly into Philadelphia airport and try to manage the maze of transportation to try to get there.
After 6 months they should have regrouped and fired the execs for a failed plan.
I don't know what to do about the smoking issue. True, a lot of people won't play in a totally smokeless property. After all, what to do when you need a nicotine fix other than standing out in the parking garage. Pathetic.
I love the absence of cigarette smells but the music is so much 'club style' to attract 20-somethings. Fine for after 10pm, but how about milder stuff during the day when the clubs are closed? I can barely balance out sitting in the clean air against the assault to my ears. Music is SOO much better at Showboat.
As melissaru said, "Such a shame. It's such a lovely property".
Stu
AC develeoped a deserved reputation for lousy service and high hotel rates & was slow to adapt to the new competition from Philly and NYC's racinos.

Was there right before the 4th & the only busy casino was the Borgata.
