I go to Shreveport and spend the night about once a month. The rooms at Sam's Town are all recently renovated and are very nice. All the rooms have a refrigerator and large bathrooms. Ask for the river view.
When I go, I just gamble. I don't know too much about activities in the area, but it doesn't look like there's much to do.
Shreveport has several casinos: Horseshoe, Margaritaville, Sam's Town, El Dorado, Boom Town, Diamond Jacks. The El Dorado is right next door to Sam's Town so you can just walk over - it's large and nicely done. The rest of the casinos would require a car to get to. The Horseshoe (CET) is very nice and the new Margaritaville casino is smaller, but very nice also.
I think the casino food in Shreveport is generally pretty bad, but I do like the buffet at Margaritaville. I've also had decent breakfasts at Smokey Joe's in Sam's Town.
Sam's Town and the Horseshoe tend to have several promotions going on, so you might want to keep and eye out for those.
