Returned yesterday morning from 5 days/4 nights in A.c. I must say that the trip went better than expected and I was really impressed with Harrahs and the Showboat!
Started out checking in at the Borgata late Monday night. Counter person says that Im gonna put you in a "newly remodeled room". It was nice rm 2335. Big bathroom...the best HD t.v. I ve ever seen and separate toilet area with its own door.
Went to the floor with my VPFREE report and found the 9/6 JOB. My girl "KIM" and I played for a while although the floor was packed with the "20 somethings" who have a special party every Monday night at the Borgata. The noise, and the smell of smoke, was immense! After about 40 mins I headed to find the 9/6 DDB (only 2 machines) and then proceeded to Paigow ( I love the Paigow Fortune bonus games that I can"t get at my local casino in NIagara Falls). But the minimums were $40.00 a hand hand OUCH ( and on a MONDAY!!). Bought in for $140.00 and sat down and played 1 hand (although I love playing 2 hands at the same time ). After 30 mins I bumped it up to 2 hands and when Kim came over and saw that I was playing $90.00 buck a hand ( 2 hands at $40.00 each plus the $5.00 bonus bet on each), she suggested that I had lost my mind!! Left soon after she arrived up $85.00!. Played some more VP with Kim (their 9/6 JOB slant tops were "hot") and then called it a night around 2 a.m.
Began Tuesday by inquiring about their fitness center named the "PUMP ROOM". Was told that it costs $12.00 to lift weights in the "PUMP ROOM". Soooo I decided to head back to the floor. 1st stopped at the coffee shop and got the best Blueberry muffin ever and then went to get a PIN number for my Borgata card. Checked my email in the wireless room (which is on the first floor of the hotel) and then after returning my laptop to my room, I ventured to the floor for some more VP and the headed to the very nice Borgata poker Room for some 3/6 LHE. That trip was uneventful. Kim was ready to hit the Boardwalk area around 4 p.m..
After paying $5.00 to exit the Borgata valet, we headed to the Taj since I had a print out of a nice MARCH promo where newbies got some free slot play and comps with a little play. Arrived at the Taj (we paid our $5.00 parking fee at the Taj with our reciept from the Borgata - all casinos give 1 free parking with a reciept from another casinos parking lot ). To my surprise when we spoke to "Rosie" - the RUDE Taj boothling, she told us that that promo stopped March 4th and that they had nothing for anyone at the Taj (not once did she even look up at us while talking to us). We got our cards and left for Resorts (we wont ever step into the TAJ again to experience the most rude staff in A. C. )
Resorts had no promos either other than a $100.00 rebate that they mail you in 2 weeks should you lose $100.00 in thier casino. (I'll be getting that rebate). Played some full pay 8/5 BP (KIMS favorite game) and 9/6 JOB which were also on slant tops! Did ok..Kim didn't. Then we headed to Resorts "Asian Pit" for some Paigow. No one playing but us and the staff their was very friendly and courteous. Played for about an hour. Lost!! . Headed to dinner at Kelsey and Kims on Montrose street ( it was great..I had the "turkey chops" and Kim had the Chicken Gumbo). Then headed back the Borgata for some more VP and a good nights sleep!
Checked out Weds. morning (paid the $5.00 occupancy fee for each day with points) and headed to Harrahs. Arrived at Harrahs at 12 noon sharp and discovered that we could check in! We were put in the Marina Tower -10035 (which is what a comped promo called for - the tower was right next to the check in area). The room reminded me of a room at the Orleans or Sante FE!. It was sufficient!! The room was simple but next to the ice machine! Heard the ice dropping all night long (or as long as I was awake).
Headed to the gaming floor with VPFREE. The full pay JOB and DDB bonus was HARD to find. There are only 3 JOB quarter machines in the whole casino. ( they have "DD" on top of them them - thats their casino locator) Took a half an hour to find those 3 machines which also had 9/6 DDB. The only other FP DDB machines were by the Total Rewards booth. A round bank of 8/10 machines which were also near the poker room .
I went to play poker while Kim played VP. Poker room was nice. Played for about 3 hours of 2/4 LMHE. Best poker staff in A. C. (although my view is limited)! Mostly locals who raved about the 4 casino Bad Beat and monthly Free Roll! When Kim came to get me to get something to eat I asked the floor manager about wheres the best place to get something to eat? He suggested Bill Burgers which was new and less than 1 mins walk from the poker room. He then asked me would I "like a comp?". I said sure...he printed me out a $40.00 comp for Bills!!!!. Off to Bills we went. Call me impressed!!!!
After Bills we decided to head to Ballys around 3! This time we took the Total rewards Shuttle! Picked us up at the door of Harrahs (after a 5 min wait) and dropped us off at Ballys! Searched for FP JOB and also their 3 play 8/5 BP with progressives! That bank of progressives (18 machines) were packed!! I had to wait for a seat...and it sucked up $200.00 bucks after a good hour or so of play. Kim played on it for a while and then setteld on a single play JOB. We then headed to the "Imperial Paigow Bonus" game. Imperial because the pay tables for the bonus are altered (i.e. 2-1 for trips and 25 K max on 7 card straight flush instead for 40-1)and they add a bonus if the the dealer has a jack high, 10 high or 9 hand paigow hand. Different (after a couple hours of play the dealer got a Jack high and I got $25.00 bonus for my $5.00 envy bet). Kim was watching me play so she missed out. Played for another hour or so and then inquired from John (the pit boss) about a food comp. He printed out a $40.00 "general food comp" and off we went to the Virginia City Buffet only to see that the wait was more than 30 mins. Headed to "Harrys Oyster Bar" which is downstairs from the Ballys Total rewards booth. I had the Crab cluster appetizer and then the lobster tail. Can't remember what Kim had cus I was famished!!!. Great meal that, after the comp cost was deducted, came to about $16.00! Headed out the door of Harrys to the Boardwalk (which Harrys faces) and walked to the Pier shops ( outside of Ceasars) and then inside Ceasars (briefly) and then back to Ballys for some more Paigow! Not much luck for me but kim did good at Paigow and I got got crushed at Paigow and those damn 8/5 progressives!! Luckily we caught the last shuttle at 10:45 p.m back to Harrahs. ( Earlier I had asked a security guard outside of Harrys when did the Shuttle stop and they told me it ran 24 hours. WRONG!!!!!!!)
Kim hit the room and I played a little more at Harrahs in the Poker room till about 1 a.m.. I really love thier poker room! Checked out the next morning. I called a host to see what she could knock off the room charges ( which really wasn't much of a request). She said she "couldnt take the taxes and fees off"-13.00 a day - nor the "movie fee" but would take the rest off...$20.00 bucks total she took off..WOW). Checked out and then we decided we would head to the Showboat before beginning our 7 hour drive back to Buffalo!
The VP at the Showboat is very limited so we headed to the Paigow tables (figuring we only had a couple of hours before we hit the road). We both bought in for $100.00 each and for a while had the table to ourselves. Our dealer was a jovial guy named "Tom" who had been dealing 28 years. Our pit Boss was "Gail" who has been working in the casino industry for 30 years. She said that Steve Wynn (who owned the old Golden Nugget in A. C. where she first started) was the "best boss I've ever had". After a couple hours of paigow and Kim getting a 50-1 straight flush ( I got $20.00 for each Envy bet I had) we were given 2 comps for the noodle bar directly behind the Paigow tables. Took a break and ate, (Beef something for me and general tso chicken and broccolli for Kim - Good stuff) and returned to the Paigow tables. Played another 3 hours (since we were told that if you travel thru PHILLY between 3 -6 p.m. you'll get stuck in rush hour) so we decided to leave at 6 p.m. After 4 plus hours of Paigow with Tom and Gail, we colored up $215.00 (made $15.00). Those 2, Tom and Gail, were truly the most pleasant staff we had encountered anywhere in A. C.! We headed home. Got back to Buffalo at 2 a.m.!
I was originally leary about going to A. C., after a 6 year hiatus, but I would visit Harrahs and the Showboat again in a heartbeat!!
