Trump Marina to become Golden Nugget AC

Landry's closed a deal today with Trump Entertainment Resorts (TER) to purchase the Trump Marina for $38 million. Landry's is planning on renaming the property the Golden Nugget AC. Meanwhile the original Golden Nugget in AC - the AC Hilton is officially for sale. From what I have read, the owners are looking for upwards of $75 million for the property. Which seems high after what Resorts and Trump Marina sold for.

Proposed refacing of the exterior:

AC Hilton for sale

With Dennis Gomes taking over the Resorts, Carl Icahn taking over the Tropicana, new ownership/management at TER, and now Landry's taking over Trump Marina; there's definitely some new blood in AC. If Revel and/or the Hard Rock open, the landscape should change even more.

This is exciting. It will be great to have some new blood back in town. The city needs to upgrade many of the properties to compete with the Borgata, which really seems to pack in the crowds. The tropicana has a small gold mine with their Quarter section, it's packed on Friday and Saturday nights with 20 somethings, but they spend little time in the casino.
The ACH is a tired property in need of renovation. Can't see it going for much $ since $$$ will be needed to upgrade it.

AC is in desperate need for investment $ and customer value & service to bring back the people it lost to PA, NY & the indians
Funny,
All the day-tripping little old people get off my bus at Trop... I don't get it.

I think Trump Marina is a black hole of suck- bad time to invest in a casino not on the Boardwalk

JM,

I think that it's a great move for Landry's. (Golden Nugget) They are getting the property on the cheap at $38 million and even with the $150 million they plan on spending to renovate the place - it's a lot less than what you would have to spend to build new. There's some land so that when (or if) the market rebounds enough, they can add another tower. They are going to be adding new restaurants and other amenities that should help them compete. Can you name any of the restaurants at Trump Marina now?

If the marina casinos ever get their acts together and make it easier to get to the other casinos in the marina, they could build a lot of synergy in the area.

I have heard that a lot of people looking forward to another casino in AC where they can earn comps for Vegas.

Here's a link of what they are looking to do there:
Landry's Trump Marina purchase announcement

People thought that they were crazy pouring the money into the Nugget in downtown Vegas and that seems to have worked out well for them.
We always stay at the GN in Vegas so I really look forward to seeing what they will do in AC. Perhaps they will give their Vegas customers some free nights to try it out.
Hey Now!
that's what I'm looking for- anything other than CET to use comps from/for Vegas....
Flip
I can name a rest.-Hooters. SH is/was called DJ's. Flip I agree with you. its a good move for GN.
I know the Marina is tired and worn from no investment, but if there are no hidden strings attached Trump gave it away.
I wonder if GN got access to Trumps player info. I'am sure there will be cross over offers between GN/LV and GN/AC.
Rambler,

From what I have heard (over the years) is that structurally Trump Marina is very strong. Landry's is saying that they will be honoring people's comps and points, so I imagine that they will have access to the player's info. Of course, by the time that they take over, TER will have tried to move the stronger players to the Taj Mahal. (I doubt that there's many high rollers playing at the Marina.)

Hooters was about the only restaurant that I could remember there as well. And that's not saying much, everything else was pretty nondescript.
To those of you who have commented in this thread (Flip and others) about remembering Hooters at Trump Marina: did you ever eat there??

I ask b/c I've only been to Trump a few times, the last time being many years ago. But what I remember most was a waitress that worked in Hooters. She had Tourette's Syndrome; she did not wait on us, but you could hear her all over the restaurant. She would yell out "Shit" or some other obscenity ever so often! Poor thing. Naturally, we asked our waitress about her and she told us what was wrong with her.

Funnest experience I've had in a restaurant ever!! Did anyone of you happen to go into Hooters at Trump Maraina and witness this yourselves??
