Tunica Casinos Begin to Close Due To Flooding

that's all well and good, but who is going to stay at the hotels with no casino to play at?

I agree with you there. Can not imagine many people at those two hotels. I think I did see there are a few events still scheduled there though. Pretty sure they will have enough staff to handle things, that is for sure.

the memphis in may show starts before the 10th but the bbq cooking was supposed to happen the weekend i arrive. Guess i'll poke the link and see what the commercial appeal has to say. Thanks and Good luck!
Memphis in May is a multiple weekend affair. Music was this weekend. BBQ is the weekend of the 12th. There is a good chance the location for BBQ will be moved. check memphisinmay.org

thanks! I called the 'grand' hotel and found out there is not expected to be gaming that weekend. I gotta wait until memorial day in LV. oh, the agony. Good Luck!
Looks like we need a new "In The Mississippi" forum.
I received an email from the Gold Strike in Tunica advising me that their online reservations was temporarily shut down. Due to the flooding they closed operations early this week and expect to be closed for about three weeks.

The Horseshoe in Southern Indiana has been closed for over a week which is the second time this spring due to the Ohio River flooding. There was a story about a woman who had to be rescued after ignoring the barricades on the closed hi-way to the casino. I like to gamble but pretty much think a major river flowing way out of its natural habitat has a definite house advantage.

I got that email from th Gold Strike too, and IMO, they are being rather optimistic. The email I got says that they are still taking reservations for May 23 on. The river isn't even supposed to crest until the 11th
I was looking at some postings about the casinos. The Gold Strike front lobby is at 47 ft. They are looking at the river maybe hitting 48 ft. So, overall, it is marginal. There are some good comments on the pics at this link.

Via today's Stiffs & George blog, check out these new photos of flooding around the Tunica casinos.

Looks miserable.
