I was driving home(NYC) from Vegas with my wife and son and had reservations at Harrahs Tunica on May 1st. As we were approaching Tunica, we received a phone call from Harrahs saying how they closed the casino and one tower, but they were still open and hoped we would keep our reservation. Being from NY we didn't quite grasp how one tower could be "safe" while the others weren't. My wife talked to the rep for about a half hour trying to find out if it was safe or not. All the rep would tell her is "Well, we're still open." We ended up bypassing Tunica, spent the night in Memphis, then got the hell out of the midwest the next day. Luckily we did, as apparently the hotel was evacuated at 3 am that night.
During our drive to Vegas we encountered a blizzard in Nebraska, 70 mile an hour winds/ Dust storms in Kansas/Oklahoma/Texas on our way there. Wild fires in Texas, floods in Mississippi, monsoon rains in Tennessee, and drove through a town in Virginia ravaged by a Tornado on our way home. Crazy.
PS- The dust storms were by far the scariest.
The Hotel right next to the casino was closed. The other 2 hotels (not sure why they are referred to as towers at only 6 stories high) are close to a mile away from the river. They remained open.
