On the way down (from Atlanta) to Mobile for the 2013 Seinor Bowl, we hit the Wind Creek Casino in Atmore Alabama for a quick pit stop to stretch.
About 10 years ago this Indian Casino was nothing more than a few windowless buildings in a field, but time and money have changed that. Its now a huge development with a beautiful 15 story hotel that could rival one of the nicer neighborhood casinos in Vegas. They have plenty of parking, a shuttle service if you are statying at the nearby hotels, restaurants, a huge spa they were promoting pretty hard and an outdoor ampitheatre. Rumor is they are about to build a "family center" and a small aquarium.
The gambling is simple. Slots only and lots of them. All the typical slots were available, but they all had a small window dedicated to your bingo card. The floor was wide open, bright, clean and had a ton of machines. You could play video poker at the bar, but only a few of the bar top machines were working. It was an older crowd (60+) with few courious tourists scattered about. The staff were all very friendly.
After the Seinor Bowl, we made the executive decision to skip staying with family and drove back to the casino for a round of Saturday night penny slots!! We had a few options of hotels: The Muskogee Inn ($69) The Holiday Inn ($89), Hampton Inn ($99) or the Wind Creek Casino Hotel ($211!!!). Muskogee Inn it is!! They had a shuttle to the casino and it was slammed. We bellied up to a penny machine and spent a few hours making $50 go as far as it could go. The cocktail service was surprisingly fast and the drinks were good. We walked away broke, but had fun.
The bartender at our hotel told us that we were not playing slots, but just fancy bingo. All the sights and sounds were just for fun. Your winnings were based on your bingo card on the machine. Interesting.
All in all, a fun casino run.
