I had a chance to see a few shows during my last trip to Las Vegas. I love to see the entertainment the city offers, but I had already heard of people bragging that the saw 2 shows in one night. I wanted to challenge that theory. See below for the escapades.
Day#1 – Show#1
==================
A little while back I had a chance to see a free mini show of “Hitsville” at Fremont Street. I was able to get 50% off tickets from https://www.halfpriceshows.com . I chose the 5:30 p.m. Show and VIP section which was slightly more expensive but was offered better seating. The show was be held at the V-Theatre located at the Planet Hollywood.
The shows was maybe 20% full so I suspect if you got the less expensive seats, you will still be placed closer. The show was very good if you like Motown music. The band was very tight and the singers very talented. The show proclaims their star to be “Jen-Jen Reeves” who is very good but as many have earlier stated, she comes across as a bit pretentious. She is good, but in my opinion, so is the rest of the act. In fact, the fellow who sang “Let's Get It On” was by far the most talented singer of the show.
The singers reappear in different parts of the show which reenact different Motown acts such as The 4 Tops, The Temptations etc..
The show lasted approximately 90 minutes which allowed my to get to my next show.
Day#1 – Show #2
================
I had originally had booked to see “American Soul” at the Krave Theatre but it was cancelled about 1 week before the show. I got an email message from the folks at Halfpriceshows.com and they told me that I could get a refund or rebook a show. I called them back and they were very helpful. I needed a show which was very close to my first show at the V-Theatre.
I decided to go with “Vegas – The Show” at the Saxe Theatre which made it extremely easy to get over there from the V-Theatre. It was about a 3-4 minute walk.
Here's a little tip. The Saxe theatre, much like many other general theatres, resets their stage for different usages. So the start time of 7 pm was pushed back about 10 minutes. The showroom was located on the second floor and involved walking up a bunch of stairs. But, what took place is that they had people line up on the stairs. So my recommendation might be to show up a little late for this reason. They also do have an elevator if you require it.
The show is basically an “old school” style show with a live orchestra. The consistent theme is how entertainment was great in old Las Vegas. They have magic, acrobats, and many music segments such as Elvis and The Rat Pack. If you like variety shows,you will like this show. I also chose VIP seating for this show and I was happy with it. In reality, I don't think there is a bad seat in the Saxe Theatre.
Day #1 – Show #3
==================
Thanks to Gregrio (master LVA entertainment expert), I decided to check this show out. I chose to close the night with the Sante Fe and Fat City Horn band. Held at the Palms Lounge, you can't get a better musical bang for the buck than this. At only $7, this show kicks. They play predominately funk style music with a full horn section. The band is made up of all working Las Vegas musicians and the reason why the show starts in reality at 11:10 p.m.. (I spoke to a regular who said that in his experience, the show always starts at 11:10 p.m, and he was right on the money.)
The 90 minute set is packed with talented singers and musicians who are truly the best that Las Vegas offers. If you are a musician or like to see really talented musicians, this show should not be missed.
You have to line up early and as Gregrio suggested to me, show up at about 9:30 p.m. At about 9:45 p.m., there must have been 50-60 people in line. A fellow would come around every 15 mins and sell tickets to the people in line. ($7 cash).
Day#2 – Show #1
===============
I booked a ticket to see Chicago (the band) at the LVH. The show started at 8 pm appeared to be a sell out. The band was good and played for almost 2 hours. The show was packed with all the hits but I would have loved to see Peter Cetera in this show.
The ticket I purchased placed me on the 1st row of the balcony. Good vantage point from this seat.
Day#2 – Show#2
================
I decided to see the show “Confessions of a Rock Star” at the Riviera at 11 pm. So it was a quick cab fare over to the Riv. I also purchased my discounted ticket from https://www.halfpriceshows.com and the cost was only $16.50. The show was not well attended and I guess there were only about 20-30 people in the room.
Featuring Pat DiNizo of the Smithereens, the show was how a garbage man turned into a rock star. Pat and 2 other musicians (drummer and bass player) played a variety of music and the show was peppered with a various road stories (.... I think??)
Because of my week of early mornings and late nights, it finally caught up to me and I found myself dozing off. It was a good show while I was awake!!!!!!! I think I would be interested in checking it out again with a bit of sleep under my belt. I would be curious to see if this show will hold on with it's struggling ticket sales.
