Advice for January Shows

I'm in the midst of planning our annual January visit for four adults and am looking for good advice from board members concerning shows. In the past (even when our visit coincides with CES) there are many big names who are not in town and even some "regulars" are dark.
So, my questions:
1) does anyone know a website that shows a calendar of everyone performing in a given month?
2) do any locals know what the normal ebb and flow is?
3) any advice as to which week is the best to score good seats?
Our travel dates for January 2-30 are flexible...we are planning a four-day visit and would like to see at least two shows.
Entertainment is our primary focus so we will be booking our flights/days around the offerings.

Thanks!

Hey there Elle, Greg here...
You'll have no problem finding Shows...it's a new year and everyone will be
back to work in January. There are a few changes though for 2012...
JERSEY BOYS is moving to Paris, MANILOW is moving to Harrah's (don't know
what that means for LEGENDS IN CONCERT) and BLUE MAN GROUP will be setting
up a new home at Monte Carlo early 2012 so..............
'Most' Shows post their schedules 90 days in advance.

It's still a bit early to find an accurate listing of Shows/Show times for 2012 but
you can use this years schedules and get a pretty good idea.
Pick some Shows. Go to the properties Entertainment website, LOOK AT THE SEATING CHARTS and get an idea of the area and price range you guys want...You may have to
'click' BUY TICKETS to access the seating chart and 'DARK' days (no Show)
Don't book up your days for nights your Shows are DARK.

There are 'residency Shows', the in house ones the properties offer and...
There are the 'casual Shows'. These are the ones that hit town for 1,2,3 nights
only and 'might' be in town when you guys are.
Here's a couple websites to stay in touch with for both residency and casual upcoming entertainment.

www.lvrj.com
Point to ENTERTAINMENT up top...
'click' SHOWS
'click' COMING ATTRACTIONS
This calendar updates 'casuals' each Friday.

www.vegas.com
Under that first listing of LAS VEGAS SHOW DEALS...down at the bottom...
'click' VIEW ALL SHOWS
You'll find lots of stuff here AND...on that same page, right hand side...scroll down
to SHOWS BY CATEGORY and 'click' UPCOMING HEADLINERS and scroll through those.
(don't book here, just use it for information. Then call your property's box office)

For the better showroom sections/seats...BOOK 90 days in advance by calling the
box office. NO WEBSITE BOOKINGS/NO DISAPPOINTMENTS.

Default 13 Show Seating Suggestions
I go to VEGAS for Shows 1st/Gaming 2nd.
I think I've seen most of the Shows...Like a good CD,
I don't listen to it just once, and I see the Shows I like
over and over again also.
The following, are 13 Las Vegas Shows that I consistently get questions on in re. to seating locations.
THERE'S LOTS MORE SHOWS TO CHOOSE FROM, but these will get you goin'!

*RULES OF THUMB:
Upper Rear seats are best for CIRQUE Shows...
Down front center for comedians...
Mid Room for music (around the 'sound booth' is always a
a good location...it's there for a good reason.) Sound needs room to open up. Up close, the 'vocals' will sound
muddy and muffled.
The far LEFT and RIGHT sections in 'most' theaters are
pretty poor seats.

*Maitre'D Tipping: They need 'at least' ten bucks, per person, in your party to re seat you to a better location.
Discount Ticket brokers like www.goldstar.com
and www.travelzoo.com have great ticket prices, but they're not (always) the better seats (even at VIP levels)
Be prepared to tip your Maitre'D when you use these services.

I buy 99% of my tics, 'rack rate' from the Box Offices.
Do you homework, LOOK AT THE SEATING CHART, have
an idea of where you'd like to sit at the price you want to
pay and CALL THE BOX OFFICE.
NO website bookings/NO disappointments
THERE'S LOTS OF GOOD SEATS IN THESE THEATERS...
these are the area's I suggest and I hope they work for
you too. If you don't care for my suggestions, go out and
make some of your own, lol.

1. MYSTERE at t.i.: 1.800.944.7444 www.treasureislandlasvegas.com 'click' MYSTERE picture
SECTION 203, ROWS AA-GG

2. LOVE at the Mirage: 1.800.963.9634
www.mirage.com 'click' LOVE picture
SECTION 209 or 200 anywhere. (I prefer upper/mid area)

3.KA' at the MGM: 1.866.774.7117
www.mgmgrand.com 'click' ENTERTAINMENT
SECTION 202, ROWS AA-GG

4.'O' at the Bellagio: 1.888.987.7111
www.bellagio.com 'click' 'O' CIRQUE DU SOLEIL
SECTION 203, Upper Orchestra

5. VIVA ELVIS at Aria 1.877.253.5847
https://www.arialasvegas.com 'click' VIVA ELVIS
Probably the most complicated CIRQUE seating chart in
town, lol. I suggest the middle section choices, 202 is center. If you prefer the front section with the 'comfy seats' and more leg room, I'd sit mid section to back.
Right up front is too close.

6. ZUMANITY at New York New York: 1.866.606.7111
https://www.newyorknewyorklasvegas.com 'click' ZUMANITY
SECTIONS 102 or 103, ROWS A-D
ZUMANITY also has lots of seating choices. There are 'love seats up front, a balcony which is good, and sections on the sides of the stage.
Because of the configuration of the stage, the side sections limit your view while performers are working the 'front' of the stage. You'll view their profile or back sides
for 'some' routines.

7. JERSEY BOYS, BLUE MAN GROUP and PHANTOM
www.venetian.com 1.877.583.6423
These 3 Shows you can access from the Venetian website.
'point' to ENTERTAINMENT and pick your Show.
BLUE MAN GROUP: FRONT ORCHESTRA, ROWS F-M
JERSEY BOYS: GOLD CIRCLE, ROWS F-K or SECTION 2
center, ROWS L-R
PHANTOM: GOLD CIRCLE, ROWS G-M (there's been a rumor that Phantom might be ending it's run. It's just a
rumor at this point, but if you want to see it, NOW'S THE
TIME. Probably some of the best costumes and stage sets
in town)

8. JUBILEE at Bally's: 1.800.634.3434
www.ballyslv.com 'click' EVENTS/ENTERTAINMENT
SECTION C center, ROWS A-F

9. CARROT TOP/FANTASY...(Adult topless Show) at Luxor:
www.luxor.com 1.800.288.1000 'click' ENTERTAINMENT
(Both Shows) Mezzanine, SECTION 1, ROW D
You want the theatre seats...there are some folding chairs.

10. LE REVE at Wynn Las Vegas: 1.888.320.9966
www.wynnlasvegas.com 'click' ENTERTAINMENT
SECTION A or B, ROWS G-K
I prefer the top at Row K. The showroom is in-a-round and
the views are good through out. 'IF' there was a 'front of stage', it is sections A and B the Artists face.
SECTION L is the VIP area. Great view, Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries lots of leg room but a bit
pricey. You even have your own video screen to watch the
underwater action...

11. PENN & TELLER at the RIO: 1.888.746.7482
www.playrio.com 'click' EVENTS/ENTERTAINMENT
I prefer the down front center VIP area for their Show!

Greg,
MEOW!
