The Arts center????

I heard about the new arts center near downtown but to my knowledge nothing in the forum
I for one, have posted a lot about 'The SMITH CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS'
www.thesmithcenter.com
It's absolutely WONDERFUL! and so far I've seen The Pink Floyd Experience, Color Purple, MEMPHIS and Million Dollar Quartet there.
I'm flying in today to catch the Neil Diamond Show at MGM, and the closing night
of PHANTOM......then, week after next back at The SMITH CENTER, 2 nights
at WICKED!
It's such a great change from the Strip entertainment. Check out their website,
find a Show in either Reynolds Hall or the smaller Cabaret Jazz and ENJOY!
I also read they are holding back I think 10 or 20 tickets to sell each night for wicked for $25 starting 2 hours before the show. I was impressed you see this in Chicago and NY. Greg I hope you enjoy wicked it was a lot different from what I expected when I saw it in Chicago.
Here are two threads discussing the Smith Center posted on this board:

Transportation to and from Smith Center

My TR that included a trip to Jazz Cabaret to see Clint Holmes

Just returned from our latest Vegas trip. Saw Wicked at the Smith Center and also Clint Holmes also at the Smith Center (in the Jazz Cabaret).

We had front row seats in the center balcony for the Wicked peformance. Both my wife and I were disappointed with the sound at that location (as well as the railing blocking the view).

While we were able to manage seeing around the blocking rail, the sound quality at this location was very poor. Wife and I have pretty good hearing but she admitted to understanding only about 25% of the singing while I was only at around 10%. Spoken words by the actors were okay but only about 75% of all the spoken words were understandable at that location. I am sure it is just a problem for that seating area as there would definitely be many complaints if the sound quality was so poor everywhere.

Also saw the Clint Holmes show and loved the Jazz Cabaret. Would definitely recommend the venue and the Clint Holmes performance (that changes from show to show). We sat upstairs at table 204 which was okay leaning on the railing but a seat further to the rear appeared to be a better choice. Also downstairs at the taller tables set around the 4-seat table areas looked like good choices.

We found finding seats at the Smith Center concert hall to be easiest by selecting the "view all available" option on their ticket purchasing web site that shows all availabe seating for the performance rather than just going in choosing "best available".

To get the best seats available (or the ones you actually want to accept) for the Jazz Cabaret seating I found that I had to purhcase each seat that was offerred and place it in the cart until one came up that was acceptable. In order to find additional seating I had to leave the prior selection in the cart.

Then before actual purchase completion, to delete the unwanted seats. A little complicated but just ordering the first availabe seating that came up was table 201, then table 202, then table 203, etc but those were some of the least desirable seats upstairs as they were too close to the stage. Just make sure the unwanted seats are removed from your order cart before completing your order.

On future trips we will be sure to check what shows are available at the Smith Center and would not hesitate to go there again.
