Creedence Clearwater Revisited

So because John Fogerty didn't want to play with the bass player and drummer anymore they shouldn't be able to play the music they played with him (and his dead brother) and make a living? I don't get that logic.

They won the lawsuit. They're not rip-off artists. It's up to each individual fan if they want to enjoy the music without Fogerty. They know what they're paying for.

Edited to say: What about other bands like Styx? The drummer is dead and they replaced him, but more importantly, Dennis DeYoung is still alive and they won't let HIM play with them and replaced him with another keyboardist/singer. Does that mean they shouldn't be called Styx anymore?

Bands change.
A friend of mine had a decent bar band that was always rotating their bass and drummers. One year, a new drummer approached them with the fact that he had been in a band that had a minor hit in the early 70s. That band had long disbanded but the drummer would book himself and his band into some oldie fests to play their hit. So for one weekend, my friends reggae/roots band became a 1970s pop band. Drummer left after a few months and the next year, my friend got a call for his pop band to return to the festival. He explained that the drummer was not with him any longer, but the promoter wanted them anyways. Promoter said as long as they played the song, no one cared who was performing it.
If people want to go see the rhythm section of Creedence perform their old music, I have no problem with it. Not something I have any interest in, but I wonder how many people buy tix thinking they will see John Fogerty.

Unquestionably true, but so what?

Just because they guy who originally wrote and performed a song isn't on stage doesn't mean the guy who is on stage can't do a great job.

Elvis Presley did well with Carl Perkins' Blue Suede Shoes.

Bob Marley made a big mark with Eric Clapton's I Shot The Sheriff.

Van Halen did great with Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman and The Kinks' You Really Got Me.

Hell, Tina Turner did an amazing job with Credence's Proud Mary, made it her signature song. Who couldn't enjoy that?

I get walking out if your ticket says Frank Sinatra's gonna be on stage but just Nancy shows up. That I get.

But I don't at all get leaving because someone other than the original composer and performer will be on stage.

Good luck ever hearing anything by Cobain, Gaye, or Brahms played live.
Anyone who is dumb enough to see the name of the band "Creedence Clearwater Revisited" and think they are going to see the original Creedence Clearwater Revival intact deserve what they get.

I doubt that ever happens.

Have no idea what your problem is. This was a fun show and no one made any attempt to deceive anyone nor did they say or do anything to reflect poorly on John Fogerty.

There are tons of "tribute bands" out there. Among the ones I've seen on marquees around Vegas lately are "Led Zep-again" and "Fan Halen." There are many others. Nothing wrong with that. I saw the "Coasters" with just one original guy, and the "Temptations." There are a couple of "Platters" groups. I think one has an original singer in it. People are used to this kind of entertainment these days and appear to have accepted it. As long as the music is good, who cares if it's not being done by the originals? Another good example is all the excellent Beatles tribute groups.
SORT OF on topic....

Couple years ago, went to see the Beach Boys at a casino in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The touring group does include two of the Boys, Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, although I guess technically Johnston wasn't "original".

So that was fine, but the star of the show turned out to be John Stamos of "Full House" fame who tours with them from time to time. Having seen that show - young daughter in the house when the show was on - knew that the guy played a musician, but that doesn't always mean in real life that the actor can actually play. But.....turned out that the guy REALLY was talented and quite the showman.

He was bouncing around all over the stage - while Love and Johnston were pretty much nailed into place.

Yes, it was fun hearing all the old tunes live - and even though we did actually go to see the Beach Boys, albeit only a couple of them - the show turned out to be swiped by a "Non-Beacher".

Not sure if that relates to CCR without JF, but I guess at the end of the day, if you find that you've been entertained, then your money was well spent - regardless of who stood on stage that day.

On that given night, we found ourselves talking more about Stamos than the two Boys that we actually went to see!
