Double Down Saloon

Any experiences with this place (either positive or negative)? I'm thinking about a visit next time in Vegas, but I wonder how much of a "Dive Bar" it can really be if it's been featured on the Travel Channel.

Also, we (3-4 middle-aged males) will likely be walking from the Hard Rock after midnight. Any cause for concern?

It's a crap hole. A loveable crap hole, but still a crap hole.

The hike isn't too bad from Hard Rock, but it will cost about $3 each if you cab it.

The Double Down is a super dive bar. If you like live hard core music, you'll love this place.
Wife and I make the walk every trip. Not really any safety concerns.
The street corner on Paradise/Naples is known as "fruit loop corner", so don't drop your keys.

I LOVE this place. I make the walk from the Hard Rock alot. Never had any issues. The first time I went, I took a cab from the HR and the cab guy at the HR told the cabbie..."don't worry, when you get back come to the front of the line" letting me know they do not welcome such short rides. Look on their web site for live music nights. I recommend going late on Sunday nights when either Ubershal (musicians from the Blue Man Group) or The Grove Collective play. Sunday nights are very mellow, Fri and Sat nights are insane, but in a good way. Have fun, have a shot of ass juice, and enjoy! When are you going?

Yhe Unique Massive play on Tue nights starting at midnight. They are all awesome musicians, and all their songs are improvised. It is very cool. You can watch some of their videos on You Tube

Thanks for the comments! Magnum, it'll probably be on a Thursday night. I guess we'll get a couple of cocktails to go at hard Rock for the walk.

We took at cab to the Hard Rock and walked to the Hofbrauhaus and then to Double Down. It was a quick, safe walk. Went in to find one of the most interesting dive bars I've ever been in. It definitely wasn't a super clean place, lets just say. However, people in there were among the friendliest we've every encountered and trust me, there was no doubt that we were tourists and not Punk Rock trivia (they were playing that night) fans. We had a great time, but....

Warning: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU DRINK THE ELVIS DRINK, ASS JUICE, BACON MARTINI, and 3 BEERS ALL IN THE SAME NIGHT while you are there. Especially if you just walked over from the Hofbrauhaus where you had two liters of dark beer. Trust me....

I've never felt worse in my life. My wife still shakes her head at me and asks what I was thinking.
