Greg Rio

I received this today:

I am sorry to inform members of this board of the passing of GregRio. He passed away a week ago after a short battle with cancer. Ever the planner; upon being diagnosed, Greg immediately began to get his financial affairs in order, made preliminary contact with a hospice and asked me to let people know of his passing.

Greg was one of the most valuable members of this and other Las Vegas boards. His knowledge of the theater and music was unmatched. He was always ready to respond to requests for recommendations and advice. I found his show reviews to be both informative and highly entertaining.

On a more personal level, I am going to miss having breakfast with him in Las Vegas which had become a tradition whenever our trips coincided. He was always upbeat and I feel very fortunate to have known him.

In the future whenever I see an empty seat in a theater, I am going to think just maybe Greg is occupying it.

May God bless him
I was hoping the news wasn't true...........but it is.
Just called Gregs work, and his co-workers are holding him a kind of Memorial for him tonight.
They all will miss him very much too.
Gregs brother upheld Gregs wishes.........Greg was cremated and he didn't want a funeral.

For a man who loved his Shows.........Greg didn't want any hoopla over himself.

So, we will have to remember him Fondly here. All the Great advice and wisdom hes
given us thru the many years on LVA and other boards.

All the shows he attended..........I think half the Vegas shows could have gone out of business
years ago if it wasn't for Greg spreading the word.

Next time you go to a terrific show, and Especially if you used a coupon, or got a deal on it?
Think of Greg. He will be proud.
God bless you Mr. Entertainment
I just read this on another board. I never met him but feel like I lost an old friend. RIP GregRio.
CLV, what a lovely tribute, and Tennisbum, thanks for sharing. There's another thread in the LV General section started by Westie.

One of my favourite people here - We had planned to meet this year. RIP Greg - we will all miss you for you knowledge, your willingness to share, but most of all, for being one of the nicest guys on the board. A very sad evening

Wish you could have met him, tonyrob. Greg was a good guy, and will be sorely missed.
I still keep thinking of how quickly we lost him. Way too fast. He wasn't that old.

I was just telling TB that Gregs wall of pix was huge. His avatar didn't do it justice.
Just noticed that Greg was last on these boards 2/16/13 1:55pm.
Only 4 days before he passed.
So you Know Greg thought alot of these boards.

I think Mon Ami should change the name of their blueberry French toast........to.......Gregrio French toast!
Thanks Calif. - And he never gave us any indication. I don't think that I would either - how do you share that? He was a gentleman, his generosity and his absolute love was obvious in his posts. And I agree - Mon Ami? If ever you should recognize someone - this is your opportunity.
Sorry to hear that... he was always quick to review and post about the shows.

We always took different sides about which tower to stay in at The Rio... will have to stay in the Ipanema in his memory next time.

Glad I got to meet him once.

RIP
While I never had the opportunity to meet Greg, he was very helpful to me on several occasions. He will be greatly missed.
How truly sad. RIP
