Hooray: Mob Experience Bankrupt!

In catching up on the recent Today's News entries, I was pleased to learn that the public was unwilling to support The Las Vegas Mob Experience at Tropicana. I'm no moralist, but celebrating criminality (murder, rape, racketeering), which is what that joint did, is flat disgusting. It was morally bankrupt when it opened, and now its finances are similarly ruined.

I'm glad to see Vegas' visitors voted with their wallets and stayed away in droves.
Sorry I missed it. Intended to go.
I am fascinated by mob history.
With all due respect, I have three comments.

Vegas wouldn't exist without racketeering. As narrative, many people find the intersection of organized crime and Las Vegas quite appealing. Personally, I find the whole, sordid history of the town -- from Meyer Lansky to Sam Giancana to the minutiae of misappropriated Teamster slush funds -- endlessly fascinating. I can't seem to muster an apology for that.

The subject of murder, as it relates to organized crime, is historically represented in a cavalier manner by popular culture ... even lampooned in Hollywood comedies and musicals. This might be crude and it might be insensitive, but it's something of a tradition. (I'm not saying this makes it right -- I'm no moralist, either.)

I never experienced the Experience, and if someone can offer evidence that it celebrates rape, I will agree with your pronouncement. At the moment, however, I have my doubts.

Bummer, I was looking forward to checking it out. I'm pretty sure the descendants of Mob bosses dont benefit financially from such exhibits - so there is no need to feel guilty. But along Chilcoot's line of thought I will not be visiting the mayor's new restaturant at the Plaza.

i made it to see the mob experience and although i enjoyed it i thought there was more that vcould have been done. some of the exhibts seemed incomplete and it was not well organized. they did have some dice chronological display pieces about vegas history i found appealing.

if your a high moral person vegas prolly isn't the best city for you.
