Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns

You know for years, I have been going to Vegas and have seen the name but never made much out this band. But, I caught a clip on youtube and these guys really, and I mean, really cook with gas. They are very similar, in fact from what I can tell, to the Lon Bronson band (and they use some of the identical players). So here is my question:

Do they attract a large audience? I want to check them out on a Monday night at the Palms "Lounge". I was just wondering if it is tough to get a ticket or not? Do I need to show up early? I would assume that they have a bit of a local following, including many local musicians.
You got that right...the audience is mostly locals, musicians, folks from the other
Shows in town. One regular who sits up front is in KA'...folks sit in, you just never
know who is going to show up on any given Monday night...Clint Holmes has
performed (Fat City is his old band...)

I've been making the 10pm, Monday Show a regular on my trip schedule for a while now.
Here's the deal...$7.00...
Folks start lining up around 9:30. It's just a casual gathering in front of the bar, with a line
that builds along the wall. They let ya in at 10, but music really doesn't start til 10:30 or
after...Remember...all the guys are coming in from the other Shows around town they work
in so...sometimes the Show starts a bit late.

Sometimes the tickets are sold at the Box Office on the other side of the casino, directly across
from the Lounge...other times, there's a guy who walks the line and sells 'em to ya right there.

Inside, it's small with great view and sound everywhere. There's the main floor area...then a
two step up level around the Lounge.
The only problem I've run into some nights is Jerry Lopez (Santa Fe) sets RESERVED signs on
sooooo many tables, it's hard to find a seat.
I show up around 9:30, get a tic, hang in the line and get in ASAP and grab a table which...many times,
will be filled with other folks looking for a seat.

It's a great...ONE LONG SET! Lots of variety, and always fun.
I'll be there again on Monday, Feb. 13th!
Thanks Greg..... This is precisely the information I was hoping to get. I plan on being there on March 5, 2012. By the sounds of it, "The Lounge" is closed on Monday's and reopens at 10:00 p.m.

In your opinion, how do they compare to The Lon Bronson All Star Band? I have always been impressed with Lon Bronson's show.
LOL!...I DON'T KNOW!
I've been trying FOREVER to get over to GreenValley and check out Lon's set...
hasn't happened yet but everything I've read/listened too...they're pretty damn cool too!

When you go over to the PALMS, check in at the Box Office first. If it's closed, then you'll
buy your ticket in line.
I like to sit...as you walk in...Left/Upper side above the floor. I try and find a table up in front..
maybe 2,3, from the front of the stage.
Some nights when Jerry has reserved all the good tables, I've been at the back of the room
next to the Soundboard...on a stool...still great view/sound.

I enjoy both Bronson and Santa Fe.

It seems almost every time we have seen Bronson's band perform he has had a guest performer. Check out the videos on his website:

I'm reviving this post to remind people just what a great show this is. We see them nearly every time we come to LV. The shows are almost always different, and invariably they will have someone different sitting in with them. I've seen Clint Holmes a couple of times, some guys from Santana's band, former members of Santa Fe, and other well known national musicians.

The individual musicianship of the guys in the band (they are all guys) is incredible, the arrangements are wonderful, and the ensemble playing is super tight. I really think this is one of the best bands I have every heard. Professional in every way. The play in the Palms lounge every Monday night starting at 10:30pm-I assume that's after any of the other shows these guys play in are done. Ten bucks gets you a ticket. Try it and I guarantee you will be impressed.
If you go, make sure you visit their website as I received an email update that they are changing the way they sell tickets. In the past, you simply waiting in line and somebody came to the line and sold tickets. They have changed that and I understand that you get your tickets at the box office. Also, I think the price is now $10 per person.

The band is super tight and they always pack the room. So if you are interested, make sure you show up early. (Just as a side note, you can see that the late Greg Rio offers some great suggestions on where to sit. It was because of him, that persuaded me to go see this incredible band. Thanks Greg!!)
Tickets are available at the Pearl ticket desk, on the opposite side of the casino from the main entrance.

Studio musicians in LA are great, but have nothing on these guys...
