The SMITH CENTER

The SMITH CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS is WONDERFUL!
Located at 361 Symphony Park Avenue, Las Vegas, 89106.
It's the other side of the railroad tracks from downtown almost
behind the Plaza Hotel...(sorta) You can easily see the Plaza and
Golden Nugget from in front of the SMITH CENTER but you just can't
easily walk over there...yet!

I took a cab over from the RIO ($18.00) and it was well marked off of I-15.
There were a couple signs along the freeway directing you to EXIT 41B.
From there once on the surface streets, there's small brown SMITH CENTER
signs almost every block pointing the way.
Once there, there's plenty of parking, a large Valet team and TAXIS after
the events.

LOTS OF DIRECTION/INFO ON THEIR WEBSITE www.thesmithcenter.com

Las Vegans are really lucky to finally have a performing arts center in their
community and it already shows BIG TIME.
They sold more than tripple the amount of season tickets, everything so far
has been sold out, the tours are book well into the future and from the
appearance and enthusiasm I picked up on from my Shows there, the community
has just been starving for THEIR OWN place to enjoy entertainment that doesn't
have a thing to do with the Strip or Gaming.
Folks dress up a bit, they socialize, it's classy and fun without being stuffy...I had
a great time the two nights I was there.

This will be the home of the LAS VEGAS PHILHARMONIC, NEVADA BALLET,
The LAS VEGAS CONTEMPORARY DANCE THEATER, BORADWAY MUSICALS and all types
of music events.

There are 2 main buildings:
1.) REYNOLDS HALL is the large theater you've probably seen pictures of. (2,050-seats)
Beautiful inside and out, lounge areas, chairs, bars both in the main Lobby and again
up on the Mezzanine.
REYNOLDS HALL is where we'll see the Broadway Plays, the Philharmonic and other larger
music events.
2.)BOMAN PAVILION is where we'll see CLINT HOLMES, BARBARA COOK, SUZANNE VEGA,
The PRESERVATION HALL JAZZ BAND, DEFRANCESCO TRIO, EMILY BERGL and a whole
line up of others in the very cool/casual...CABARET JAZZ (250-seats)

My first experience was with The PINK FLOYD EXPERIENCE ($58.00)...very, very good!
Close your eyes and you were listening to the Floyd. These guys had it down and should
be back...the crowd loved 'em!
My second experience, almost a week later and in a different seating area was for The COLOR PURPLE ($141.)
Different crowd and just as appreciative of their choice of entertainment.

Go to their website. Look at the seating chart. It seems a bit complicated at first, but once I got in,
it was pretty easy to figure out.
There's the normal Orchestra floor seating...Gold Circle up front and the front sides.
All the upper seating is arranged in one big horseshoe style arrangement.
The first couple levels to about mid room are 'boxes' for season ticket holders.
General public seat above those and all around the back side of the horseshoe.
Anyone can book the floor seats.
ALREADY A WORD OF WARNING. The Balcony is steep. Ushers have had to help folks in and out due
to VIRTIGO PROBLEMS, lol. This place really stacks up the levels of seating and by the time you get
to the 'real' Balcony...you're at least 4 levels from the main floor...WAAAAAAAAAAAAY DOWN THERE.

My first night, my seat was on the back curve of the horseshoe, centerish, back of the hall and...
THE VIEW WAS GREAT. Inside, it's not as huge as it appears in pictures.
This area is called the DRESS CIRCLE and I would choose it again for something other than a 'play'.

The second time, I chose a Gold Circle seat, Left side, on the asile. THIS IS MY AREA!
(Mac King's too...he and his family were sitting with me and he thought the seats were great)
Viewing the stage from a side asile seat...there aren't any heads in your way. You look right over at the
stage and can choose up front or further back to about mid room.
The center seats would be good too, but I always have a big head in front of me so....

I have 4 more visits and 4 more seating areas to experience between June for MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET ($144.)
July for MEMPHIS ($141.), and I plan on doing two nights in September at.....WICKED ($150.and below)
(there's lots ticket prices to choose from...)

I'd say you'll need to book in advance and good luck getting through on the phone.....they're SWAMPED.
I talked with several folks before my Shows and they say they're just EXHAUSTED. They never expected
such an overwhelming responce....(and it's just gettin' started, lol)

WICKED starts their new season with the longest run so far...late Aug. to early Oct. and it's gonna be BIG.
Then comes The ADDAMS FAMILY, LA CAGE, BILLY ELLIOT, WEST SIDE STORY, ANYTHING GOES,
SHREK THE MUSICAL, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN..........

That's all I got. Go to the website www.thesmithcenter.com and find whatever floats yer boat and ENJOY!
Glad you enjoyed the pink Floyd Expirience. Loved it myself here in Albuquerque but got a much better price for tickets. We had row l center for $25. Think the show is worth the $58 though.
