Barrera vs. De Jesus (6/26)

Barrera vs. De Jesus (6/26) For those true boxing fans, watching Barrera in his prime was a treat. "The babyfaced assassin" is a lock for the boxing hall of fame. I've seen Barrera fight 20 times, I had to look for De Jesus. I found him fighting a 6 round fight against Yuri Gamboa, in Gamboa's first state side fight. Currently, I found Barrera at -500 on Bodog and couldn't pass. This is Barrera's first fight for Top Rank Boxing. There is little to no chance that they would put him in hard after more then a year off. My other two sites have Barrera at almost -700. Barrera a Mexican, is fighting in San Antonio. (Might as well be Mexico for boxing purposes) De Jesus is Brazilian. Long odds and it is always a risk to bet on aged fighters, but I cannot see Bob Arum (Top Rank Boxing) putting Barrera in bad when he's looking forward to getting Barrera into one last big money fight. The bet... 5 units to win 1 on Barrera GL
Any thoughts on Chavez vs. Duddy? As always much appreciated.
Any thoughts on Chavez vs. Duddy? As always much appreciated.
I think that Freddie Roach makes the difference and Chavez wins. At -300 or worse I just couldn't get on Jr. He shouldn't be that big of a favorite. Duddy while not a great fighter, certainly has shown some skills and I have some questions about Chavez's heart and chin. I passed on the fight. It was the same with Fury. I thought he would win, but wasn't sure enough with him changing trainers right before the fight and having a history of being lazy to bet on him. I also thought he lost the first fight and got a gift decision.
I order the PPV late. My jaw dropped when I see Salvador Sanchez in the ring!!! WTF!!!! He's like 50 or 60!!! Then it occurred to me that Sanchez died in the early 80's!!! WTF, did I pay for!! Oh, its his nephew and he isn't all that good. LOL!!

Any plays on strikeforce tonight?
Any plays on strikeforce tonight?
Not from me, I don't follow much of strikeforce. I will watch Fedor fight and expect him to win but the price is way to steep.

Chavez was clearly the better fighter tonight. The greatest things Freddie Roach did for Jr., was he improved Jr.'s conditioning and defense. His defensive improvement was 1000 percent. He was catching most of Duddy's punches on his gloves. Chavez Jr., isn't ready for Martinez or Williams. Even that bitch Cintron would more then likely ruin him at this stage. He's quiet young and with continued improvements, can likely fight at the top of the middleweight division.
Was Duddy's chin that good or does Chavez not have the pop??
Was Duddy's chin that good or does Chavez not have the pop??
Chavez has good power, probably not elite power. Duddy's chin is very good but his power was lacking. He did buzz Chavez once but he didn't have a lot of steam on his punches. I think that Chavez's chin is a bit shaky but Roach taught him to keep his hands very high. Duddy never took advantage of Chavez's wide open body. Chavez is a very good boxer but just short of elite at this stage. There was talk of him fighting Cotto. Good money fight, but I think even a slightly faded Cotto beats Chavez.
