Chagaev vs Meehan (5/22)

Chagaev vs Meehan (5/22) This is a fight that should have occurred a few years ago but finally got made. This is the WBA heavyweight title eliminator. Which basically gives the winner the right to challenge David Haye the WBA belt holder. Haye is contractually obligated to fight Valuev again. (I can't wait to see that again, was one of the worst fights I've seen in the last year) Meehan's promoter Don King has had him on hold waiting for a fight for 21 months. He's had a few good opponents over the years but they where half a decade ago. Chagaev is coming off an 11 month lay off after losing by KO to Wladimir Klitschko. Chagaev has had some injury issues in the past and my thinking is that this 11 months off was a good thing for him. At 31, (considered a prime age at HW in boxing) he will be looking forward to getting another chance at a belt. Meehan at 40 is the bigger fighter and probably the puncher in the fight but Chagaev doesn't have a problem with bigger guys and he has said he prefers fighting taller guys. While this fight may go the distance, which I highly doubt, Chagaev is clearly the better fighter. He has fought and defeated much better boxers then Meehan and did I mention that this fight is in Chagaev's backyard? The bet... 5 units on Chagaev I've got to admit I don't like betting -500 but this is a mismatch. Meehan has no business being in this fight. This line will only get worse, so if you don't like it or miss it, don't worry, I'll add this fight into a parlay which will provide more risk but a better return. GL

GL[/QUOTE] I changed the above line as TheGreek opened this fight at -500. (are they taking a position on this fight?) A very good boxing writer wrote that he knows Chagaev is a big favorite but he somehow things that Meehan is in the right place at the right time to win. I totally disagree. The more I analyze this fight the more sure I am and loved to get the better line on TheGreek. I'm also adding a bet 1.4 units on the UNDER 9.5. (-140) I just can't understand this line. Meehan hasn't been more then 6 rounds in 6 years and at 40 it isn't like his stamina has gotten better. The book sees that Chagaev hasn't knocked anyone out in four years and the line gets placed at 9.5. Chagaev ruptured his Achilles in 2007 and yet showed very good movement against Klitschko in 2009. I cannot see Meehan lasting half way into the 10th round. Many prime HW's struggle to make it that long and Meehan is anything but a spring chicken. I can't believe I'm out on a limb on this fight. I guess I have to add the disclaimer that this is a risky bet.

So we won the fight and lost the O/U for a net loss of .4 units. Chagaev won the fight 118-110, 117-112, 117-112. In a waste of 40 minutes of my life and that of anyone who actually watch that crap. Chagaev will be the mandatory fight for David Haye, and sadly Haye will probably go off at -500 now... GL
