Dawson vs. Pascal (8/14) Saturday, Bad Chad Dawson travels to Canada to fight Canadian favorite Jean Pascal.
I'm struggling to figure out why the money is moving to Pascal. It makes little sense. Chad Dawson is CLEARLY the best Light Heavyweight in Boxing. Pascal, moved up to LHW 14 months ago. Since then, he beat Diaconu twice and Blanco once. Blanco was well past his prime at 42, and Diaconu while being undefeated at the time of the first fight, has no B+ type of wins on his resume.
Now Pascal is stepping up to face Dawson, who is undefeated at 29-0. He beat a prime Tomasz Adamak, Glen Johnson x 2 and Antonio Tarver X 2 the later 2 he faced over the last three years.
Pascal is coming off a serious shoulder injury. Neither fighter has been very active and this fight has been booked for a very long time. Pascal is also giving up 2 inches in height and almost 10 inches in reach.
I realize that Pascal is fighting at Home, and that can sometimes lead to bad decisions, I just don't think it will matter.
To me, Dawson clearly outclasses Pascal. He's fought and defeated far better competition, is in his prime and is a great student of the game. I also don't see Dawson taking this fight, in another fighters backyard, if he doesn't clearly think he can win this fight. Personally, I rate Dawson as a top 10 P4P fighter and should likely dominate this fight. Dawson, is a Fantastic boxer, with a 10 inch reach against a guy not known for great power, this seems like an easy fight to me.
The belief that Dawson lacks power is a bit of a myth. His last four fights over the last three years where Johnson X 2 and Tarver X 2. Johnson was TKO'd once more then a decade ago by Bernard Hopkins, and Tarver has never been KO'd.
At least one of my sources thinks that Pascal "can win" based on home field advantage. I don't think so.
I know Dawson is the better boxer, add the better quality of opponents, and the huge reach advantage makes this look like an easy fight to me. Dawson most likely by unanimous decision.
Reduced on 5dimes 3.45 units to win 1 unit.
