Does anyone win at sports gambling?
Let me get this straight, if you are a sharp you get worse lines from online sites? Is this provable?
It's not a common practice, but for the few books that do it, it's been common knowledge in the industry for years. skrtelfan's above posts explain it.
Also, I wouldn't really say the dual lines thing is solely the domain of online sites. I've seen countless stories of Vegas bettors try to bet a certain line, get hemmed and hawed about "let me speak to a line manager" and then are told that the line moved because "someone must have just bet it at one of our other properties." Of course if you tried to bet the other side they'd have gladly taken your action. That's the same kind of shit Bodog pulls, only the Vegas books have to be sneakier about it because dealing dual lines violates gaming commission policy.
Bodog gives you worse lines if you have a couple active brain cells, let alone are "sharp." There are plenty of other books that deal multiple line sets but Bodog are the best known. As an example, right now the Bodog "square" feed has Lakers/Hornets at 6 flat where the "sharp" feed has Lakers -6 -105 Hornets +6 -115. Bodog shows +6 flat on the line feeds and on the public site, but once I log in, it moves to Hornets +6 -115. They keep a cookie stored on your browser to remind the browser to display the "sharp" lines even when you're not logged in, but if you clear the cookie or simply open a different browser, you can see the "square" lines again.
I just checked and you are correct. Wonder if you can take advantage of this? It seems I have 2 brain cells.... Small sample, I just checked every line on on MMA and they all matched. I bet often and much more on MMA then CBB or NBA.
People often ask on the forums if there's any way to take advantage of it, but I'm pretty sure there isn't. Their "sharp" feed is really just a regular feed at market numbers. Lakers -6 -105 isn't anything special at all, as tons of books have -5.5 -110. If you're talking about using a "Bodog lean," the square feed is designed to take advantage of suckers who just want to bet the public side like the Lakers or popular NFL road favorites, so it's not as if you can read anything into the square feed other than "People like to bet the Lakers." The best way to take advantage of their stupid lines is to set up an account there, place the 3 or 4 max bets they'll let you make before they switch you, and cash out.
