I'd wait for someone to agree with me, because I am speaking as a sports fan here.
My perception is that hockey has more upsets than any other sport in the playoffs, with the possible exception of baseball. Whether this is already priced into the line is beyond me. The following look good to me (all lines from The Greek).
San Jose -400 I live down the street from where they play. I am a little biased here. I hate laying a number like this, but it's a good spot for them. If they had finished with the two seed, I would have taken LA against them, but Colorado? I am not worried. 1 weight
Nashville +320 Nashville has historically sucked in the playoffs, and Chicago is in the unfamiliar spot of being a favorite (2 seed). 2 weight
Los Angeles +210 Vancouver coasted down the stretch, locked into the 3 seed. The Kings are in the playoffs after sucking out loud last year. It is a good spot for them. That said, it is hard to bet against Luongo ever. 1 weight
Phoenix +160 Detroit is a public team, and Phoenix is in a similar situation as LA. Now that Gretzky is gone, the team is playing a lot better. Detroit has been hot as of late. Just a month ago they were 10th in the Western Conference. The winner of this series is worth a bet in the semifinals; both of these teams are good. I suggest the dog for value. 1 weight
I know less about the Eastern Conference because I am a Panthers fan, which means it doesn't matter who they play; they lose anyway.
Montreal +475 This is the NHL playoffs. Washington is a public team because of Ovechkin, I suppose. They aren't going with Price in net, and I guess that is a good thing? I don't know. The key is there is always value in an NHL playoff series when you're getting +475. You can always hedge in games 6 and 7, should it get that far (although this in and of itself is a bad strategy if you have no edge). 1 weight
New Jersey -235 No opinion. Philadelphia is just happy to be here. Many people say to take the dog in a division matchup. This is a clear pass to me.
Boston +140 I know they barely got in, but this is not a bad team. I don't see what makes Buffalo so much better. 2 weight
Pittsburgh -290 Pittsburgh is a public team because of Sidney Crosby, but Ottawa is no great shakes. I'd pass on this one too.
