The Factor breaks his maiden in 1:06 4/5 The new dirt track @ Santa Anita was running incredibly fast today, obviously. Twirling Candy won the Malibu in 1:19 and change himself. Btw, the overreaction to these 6-furlong maiden wins is ridiculous. The Hilton dropped The Factor from 125/1 down to 50/1 to win the 2011 Kentucky Derby. The Wynn slashed it from 85/1 down to 30/1. Lucky's had him listed @ 50/1 BEFORE today's race, lol. I didn't even bother checking there

Check this out: 2yo maiden winner The Factor set fractions of 21.62, 44.11, 55.42, and 106.98 earlier on the card. Grade 1 Malibu pacesetters Alcindor/Smiling Tiger went in 22.72, 44.69, and 107.58 thru six furlongs. Obviously, they had to keep a bit more in reserve due to the additional furlong of the Malibu, but it's still insanely impressive for a young maiden winner to set faster fractions than those set in the Malibu.
