Farmers Insurance Open

Farmers Insurance Open The Farmers Insurance Open is held at Torrey Pines GC North and South Courses. The South Course will host the weekend play. Tiger Woods makes his 2011 debut and while I don't think he'll win this week, it would be tough to back him in matchups where he is favored by 2-1 against Phil Mickelson or Dustin Johnson with too much uncertainty at this point in the season. I don't like the new swing moves, but his short game will always keep him competitive. Recall Tiger won the 2008 U.S Open on one leg here at Torrey and the horses for courses angle is difficult to ignore with Tiger winning here 7x in the L10 years. Usually I'm at this event handicapping, taking notes and talking to caddies etc, but could not make it this week, however LVASports member, good friend and So Cal resident the Dude, from Dude Sports Inc is scouting the field for us this week and he reports, ....Johnny Vegas is long and straight and Mike Weir may be better than advertised. Hopefully we'll get more from the Dude on Wed as he is attending the Pro-Am as well. I'm waiting for more matchups to appear and or better prices. Bill Haas -140 vs Hunter Mahan.....3 Units In what appears to be a very strong spot to bet against Mahan here, this is my biggest play of the season to date. After playing the opening week at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, which was for 2010 winners only, no cut and a free check, plus Fed Ex Cup points, Mahan finished a very poor T25 in a field of 32. There is good reason for his lack luster performance. Mahan was married the week after to a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. (you fill in the blanks) Then it was off to Aspen for his honeymoon, skiing, something Mahan has never tried before, (lucky he didn't break his neck) and snowboarding. Next week Mahan will defend his title in Phoenix at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Surely, after two weeks of R&R or R&S his game cannot be sharp and this week is a tune-up at best. Haas almost won last week in a playoff, his game especially his short game is sharp and he is sneaky long off the tee. He has made 4 straight cuts in this event and was T11 in '08.
Thats what I call line movement :) FWIW... Love the new post time
added Camillo Villegas -125 vs Anthony Kim.....Kim not hitting it on the face of the club, while I can recall a 1st round winner with Villegas over Padraig Harrington a few years back, Villegas very long, hits the stinger shots need on the ocean holes.
Agree with the BeJaagusss bet over Belt Buckle Boy...good bet. Of the crumbs that are left, I might also add that I would play.... 7006) Chucky 3 stix -105, up to -120 over Rickie Bobby Fowler. Best of Luck

Fowler damn near .... knocked my white Russian out of my hands. He missed the 1st 7 fairways and then hit a pine cone in the top of the tree on #14 which dropped onto my shoulder, but The Dude has a steady hand when it comes to beverages, and did not spill a drop. BTW, kid has some serious hot tail following him everywhere he goes, it was a joyful day. Cheers
"Miceli's Matchups" This guy on the golf channel from the show Golf Central is a complete fade. So they give him 4-5 matchups each week with odds from The Greek (LOL), and he picks. Record 3-9 (mostly chalk)so far this year, but more importantly is his reasoning. After the horrid matchup picks, he picks Dustin Johnson to win at Torrey...."because he is long". LOL. Does not matter he has one of the worst short games in golf. You can not make it up. It is cool that they are atleast talking about sportsbetting.
Looks like this is going to get interesting. Lost 3 shots today on the 18th hole in the Haas-Mahan matchup. Any interest in the 4th rounds Alf or Dude??
No 4th rd matchups... I personally know Alex Micelli. He's no dummy, the guy has been around writing about golf for over 25 years. Did you catch his matchup record last year on the Golf Channel? I don't have the exact figure and I'm sure we can look it up, but he was something like 54-30-4, he was solid all season long. He called me up at the start of the golf season last year and asked me which matchups they should use for Golf Central. I mentioned Pinny, the Greek, 5 dimes etc and he said they have don't want an on-line sportsbook, they wanted a Las Vegas sportsbook where they could see the lines via the internet....and the only one that would work is the Hilton....and that is where he is getting his matchups from. He'll bounce back. We have to remmember that the Golf Channel is the equivalent of ESPN for golf. They have golf contacts and info around the world at their finger tips.
Alex's picks for win-place are a bit of a crapshoot. It is very difficult to pick those spots week after week, you'd be lucky to hit more than one winner a year.
I am really shocked by the results this week. SD got a ton of rain in December and the rough at the course is 4-6 inches thick and very dense. I walked it Tuesday and Wednesday all day. I heard many pros and caddies complaining of the length, and how important it is to be in the fairway off of the tee. Tits Mickelson ranked damn near last in DA last year and guys like AK and Rickie Bobby also are very wild off of the tee.....all playing great. Bizarro/variance
