While I agree 1000% with Mose about keeping the site positive and not throwing stuff back in people's faces, I also see a lot of value in keeping a record of one's picks. I, as a novice to this site, put a lot more faith, rightly or wrongly, in a person's handicapping when I can see how they have been doing.
For example, if Alf has been killing college football but not doing well in the CFL then I may put more value on his college analysis and recommendation.
As Anthony stated this is not a picks site so Alf or Fezz not keeping their own records is understandable. It also takes time that I would rather see them use for handicapping. The other problem is that anyone keeping track of picks can manipulate the data a bit to slant the perception of the record. For example, using the last week, month etc although if consistently done this smooths out.
All that being said I think that if someone wants to take the time to tabulate the info then it should be encouraged and the reader can evaluate the info on his own. More info is ALWAYS better. But again, dont use the info to be a jerk!!
Clearly, some people don't have any use for any documented records. Those folks should avoid my posts like the plague. Please ignore these posts. Also, btw, please ignore those records for Fezz and Alf posted on the website just to the left of the forum.
Some people use records merely for "bashing" purposes. This doesn't serve any purpose. Any one NFL/CFB season is a very small sample. I will be glad to discuss statistical significance of these records with any poster.
I have found that keeping records of my own long-term performance as well as many well-known handicappers like RAS, Russ Culver, VegasInsider, Sportsmemo guys, old Stardust Invitational, Leroy's Money Talks and Hilton Contests to be interesting and reveals some insights into the short term variance and long-term performance of sports betting.
