The Hyper Turbo Sit andGo, the crack cocaine of poker?

The Hyper Turbo Sit andGo, the crack cocaine of poker? Been playing a lot of these. 6 person, 3rd place refunds money, top 2 win an equal amount. 3 minute levels. You start with 10bb, AND antes. Average time to get down to 2? 9 minutes. ALOT of action. Basic strategy is to push allin with anything decent. Seems like UTG a10-ak, kq, 55-AA a good range to push with.
What's nice about these is that you can multitable more easily because all you need to look at is your starting hand. My BS is similar to yours: UTG any pair, at-ak all in. (Too many call with any ace for me to use KQ six-handed UTG.) Keeping a separate database with this tournament type is a must. There are three types of players that I notice most: 1) Thinks he is at a 10-handed and/or normal blind structure SnG 2) Always raises on the button with any two cards when first in 3) Goes all-in when first in with any ace, king, connector or pair People don't try to vary their play because the tournaments are too short so when you face them again, they do the same thing. Oh, and the aforementioned database should really only consist of hands when five or six handed. It's easier to figure out their starting hands if you only use this data.
There is no statistical advantage to these games. Turbo's have been around for almost a decade. You may like the crack like action but you simply cannot beat these games at any reasonable level of play. So you push UTG (under the gun/ first position) and will get 2 or 3 callers. Where is the advantage? Even with AA against 3 people you aren't 50% to win the hand. These games can be enjoyable if you love to gamble and hope to be luckier then the other guy. Blow off some steam on these games, don't think you can make a regular profit off of them. Well... if you had partners you might....
The above is like saying there's no value in betting a team +300 when you think the fair line is +160 because you'll lose your bet more than 50% of the time.
The above is like saying there's no value in betting a team +300 when you think the fair line is +160 because you'll lose your bet more than 50% of the time.
I don't think the comparison is accurate. A10 through AK you are a dog to any pair and likely will be called by any pair. Lower pairs you are a slight favorite. Likely to be called by any good Ax or KQ probably KJ QJs. So the thinking that you are +300 in any situation other then Heads up with a major pair is a mistake. UTG you can't be sure you'll only get one caller. Trust in this, gamblers will call with shit if 2 others are already in the hand and it may not be that bad of a call. The risk reward is what by pushing?? A slight advantage maybe, but you still haven't cashed in the tournament. Just my 2 cents. I don't play poker much anymore....
I was referring to AA being less than 50% against 3 people.
I was referring to AA being less than 50% against 3 people.
Well then we agree!!! I'd go all in AA UTG in that type of situation every time.
The ROI per tournament may be lower, but it's still positive, and because you can play more of these at once than a normal tournament because you hardly have to pay attention at all, you can actually make more money with these once you've honed your game to exploit tendencies in these types of tourneys.
I'm 100% sure they are profitable Advantages: 1. Easy to get lots of comp points quickly 2. Solid edge vs. players who don't know how to play these 3. Easty to learn 1st orbit basic strategy 4. Some secrets people don't know about Disadvantages: 1. It'sa luckfest. Edges are small or zero vs. opponentss than know how to play.
What exactly is 1st orbit basic strategy? And what is the best poker site to play these? Thanks in advance for your info Fezz!
