Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open I was at the tournament site this morning and after a 2 hour rain delay the Pro-Am did start and I managed to see pretty much all the top players in the field.
The TPC Summerlin course is a par 71 layout that measures just 7,223 yards and at 2500 feet of altitude , where the average drive will be over 300 yards this week, the Tour guys will go low.
With more rain in the forecast, lift, clean and place will more than likely be the order of play and we expect the winning score to be -18 under par or lower. So, making lots of birdies the key here this week.
Rickie Fowler -120 vs Hunter Mahan
Fowler moved to the Summerlin/Las Vegas area last year. TPC Summerlin is his home course. He was in position to win last week and is the favorite to win a 10-1. I saw him on the range today for about a good 45 minutes and he is stripping his irons and hitting his driver well either direction for the dogleg holes. I was impressed as this was the first time I have seen Rickie since he turned pro. The last time was in 2007 where he played in a group behind my son Matt in an AJGA event.
Mahan has no reason to be here. He already has locked up a Top 30 position. We'll see how he copes with the loss at the Ryder Cup. He was in tears in the post press conference after losing the final singles match to G Mac. Who knows how he will deal with this issue? I did not see him on the course or range today.
