Las Vegas Sports Radio War

Las Vegas Sports Radio War I was listening to a podcast from Sherdog.com (an MMA site) and Steve Cofield, from ESPN 1100 in Vegas and Yahoo Sports, was one of the panelists on the show breaking down UFC 119. https://www.eog.com/news/full-article.aspx?id=49080 The above article is from JK (John Kelly at EOG). He was on a show with Adam Hill and Matt Youmans (from the LVRJ) and got into a discussion regarding African-American head coaches. This was JK's quote: "The African-American culture promotes the idea of outperforming their opponents rather than outsmarting them." His comment was later deleted from the KDWN replay. Well, today Steve Cofield made light of it when talking about the Melvin Guillard-Jeremy Stephens fight. He says we got a guy out here (LV) that says all black coaches are not intelligent (not a true statement) and called JK "David Duke-like". He also said he went to Northwestern so he thinks he's a genius. What a complete cheapshot from Cofield who completely took JK out of context. Can any of the Vegas guys tell their opinions on Cofield b/c mine isn't too high after what he said today?
His comment was later deleted from the KDWN replay. Why did they delete it? On the surface it can be classified as a not so intelligent statement, worst case there could be a history from JK on this perspective? I do not have time to listen to it-statement gone anyway, but... I know Steve. When wrong he will say it. One should not read too much into it as I doubt Steve made the comment based on this one thing? I can ask him if you want to know?

JK was asked by the LVRJ writers to rank his top 5 best and worst NFL coaches and two of the bottom 3 were black coaches (Morris-Tampa, Lovie Smith-Chicago along with Cable-Oakland). That's what led to the discussion. I haven't listened to it, but this seems like an innocuous, Limbaugh on ESPN countdown show-esque comment, which might not have been the most logical, but was not racist.
Cofield made some on-air comments about Barbaro after he broke down in the Preakness and was fighting for his life for some time afterwards. Forget the exact quotes, but something along the lines of shooting him and making glue out if him. Real nice.

When it comes to some subjects (race , politics, religion, etc...), you can't really have a discussion (or even address it) without pissing someone else off. Better to stay away from those topics-especially in a public forum or on the air. If I bring anything like this up, it's always with friends and usually one on one.
Steve Cofied, smart talented guy. Avoid him at all costs. 2005 "Ok, this is Cofield.....wrapping up my 2-3 show, be sure to tune in at 4PM for Papa Joe". I was hosting You Can Bet On It for Larry that summer. The next day I talked to him Fez "What the hell was that?" Cofield (who hates Larry) "Oh, it must have just been an oversight". Fez "You are WAY too smart for that to have been an accident. Give me a break. Don't ever do that again"
