Martinez vs Williams (10/20)

Martinez vs Williams (10/20) This is a rematch of an incredible fight that happened about 11 months ago. Williams won in a controversial mixed decision. Many thinks that Martinez won the fight. Either way, the fight was very close. In the original fight, both fighters only had 3 weeks to prepare for each other as Martinez was a fill in for Pavlik. Pavlik pulled out of the fight do to illnes. (does drinking count as an illness?) Both of these guys have had full training camps for this fight and are well aware of what the other is capable of. The odds offered on this fight are have remained steady at about even money. Some money has moved to Martinez in the last few days. I've thought hard about this fight. I've watched the replay twice in the last week and have finally come to a conclusion. Normally, I look hard to the counter puncher in rematches. The saying goes, once a counter puncher cracks the aggressors code they win the fight. I'm certain that Martinez has seem most of everything that Williams has to offer. There are possible issues for Martinez in this fight. The WBC has a 30 day mandatory weigh in prior to the fight. Williams was nearly at weight but Martinez was 18 pounds. With 7 days to go, Martinez was 8 pounds over. The 8 pounds isn't necessarily excessive but at the final press conference, Martinez looked gaunt. As fighters age, well as we all age, it becomes much more difficult to lose weight. I believe he may have had to spend far to much time losing weight for the fight then training for the fight. It also causes fighters to fade late in fights. Martinez, has a history of being in fantastic shape and has hardly ever faded in fights. He did look gassed out at the end of the first fight against Williams. They both where gassing but it seemed to me that Williams had a bit more left in the tank. My feeling on this fight, is that Williams has more desire and heart and that will likely carry him to the win. 2 units on Williams (+105) 5dimes GL
This pick is high risk, many of the people I respect in boxing think that Martinez wins this fight. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Martinez wins. I watch the complete weigh in video last night and near the end of the video after the stare down, Martinez was licking his lips. I have no doubt he was dehydrated at the weigh in. While he may well be able to get away with it, it is a decent part of the reason to go with Williams. There are many props for this fight and I'm trying to work out a winning strategy. One intriguing side is the Under 5.5 or 6.5 rounds at a large plus number. If a KO happens in this fight and it could come from either it will happen in the first 5 rounds. Williams' power fades as fights goes on and I believe Martinez's does as well. A lot of talk has been made about Martinez putting a beating on Pavlik since the first fight and how people believe that it puts Martinez in the drivers seat. Pavlik was tailor made for Martinez. At the top levels, I can't think of anyone that matches up worse against Martinez then Pavlik. Pavlik's management team had to be idiots to want to fight Martinez. Pavlik has never done well against moving fighters. He simply cannot move laterally. What it did show to me is that Martinez faded in the middle of the fight allowing Pavlik to come on strong. What really happened was that Martinez stopped moving and Pavlik was able to catch up to him. To me it was just another case of Martinez slowing down. Martinez eventually cut Pavlik and Pavlik folded like a cheap tent. I'll continue staring at the prop bets for the fight. I'm tempted to buy off the bet if I can get Martinez at better then +100 which is available now. Take the small profit with no risk is better then losing. Like I said, many top guys really like Martinez in this fight.
Money is pouring in on Williams. One off shore has Williams at -155. WOW!! Needless to say I don't recommend Williams at more then even money. If you aren't down; skip the bet and watch what could turn out to be an all time classic rematch.... GL
I put a UNIT on Martinez at +125. Limiting my exposure on this fight. I put 2 units on Williams +105 and 1 unit on Martinez +125. If you where on the parlay, all we need is Sosa to win. GL

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew that under 6 was the way to go.... Well at least I backed a unit out. Martinez one punch KO in the second round. As usual Williams' defense and strategy fail him. Martinez punch was a complete haymaker that was actually a brutally poor punch that landed. Williams again cannot seem to fight tall. Congrats to Martinez, he obviously was the best fighter. 2 on Williams (-2) 1 on Martinez (+1.25) Net minus .75 units.
To all the MMA fans, that love huge KO's it is a must see and likely KO of the year. Devastating.
It's been a long time since I've seen one like that. There was no staggering at all. Williams went right down like a sack of potatoes. He was nothing but dead weight after that shot, and there wasn't even an attempt to get up.
