MIGUEL VAZQUEZ vs LENNY ZAPPAVIGNA (3/12)

MIGUEL VAZQUEZ vs LENNY ZAPPAVIGNA (3/12) Vazquez the IBF strap holder takes on undefeated Zappavigna tomorrow night. Zappavigna looks to have great power with a high KO percentage and his punches "sound" good. Vazquez doesn't look like anything special. He doesn't seem to be elite at anything. He doesn't have big power and he doesn't have fast hands. What he does have is fantastic technical skill and a very good jab. Vazquez is just one of those guys that just knows how to box. Vazquez will have a 4 inch height advantage, and likely a reach advantage. My take... Zappavigna's power is a bit over rated. Yes he can get the early KO as Vazquez was knocked down by Prescott when Prescott was still an undefeated fighter. (many feel that it was a "flash" KD as Vazquez was off balance.) Though the judges had the fight close against Prescott, I had it, and the announcers had it a WIDE decision win. He owned Prescott in my opinion. Vazquez, as a counter puncher can struggle in the first few rounds. (think Mayweather or Ali early in fights) Zappavigna will likely try to blitz Vazquez early but, as witnessed by his own statements Vazquez understands this and will by on his bicycle early in this fight. Vazquez will settle into his rhythm and begin to dominate the action. The more risk adverse amongst us may want to straddle this fight betting Vazquez to win with Zappavigna by KO or the Over and Zappavigna. (Dwyer) I like Vazquez as a straight bet in this fight. -160 Vazquez. 1.6 units to win one. GL

Vazquez dominated Zappavigna who showed a lot of heart but was outclassed in the fight. He was rushed into this fight and was outclassed by a wily veteran. Martinez knocked Dzinzurik down 4 times on his way to an easy KO victory. Dzinzurik was undefeated but fighting tomato cans in Serbia doesn't make you ready for a champion like Martinez. Andy Lee... what can we say. Dude looked great in the first round then managed to get himself in a must KO situation while looked simply terrible for the next 6 or 7 rounds. That KO came in the final round for a come from behind victory and possibly minor FOTY candidate. He/We needed that KO and Lee provided it. Actually got my juices flowing and that is difficult after watching what seems like a million fights. Cotto wins by stoppage in the 12 round. He was clearly winning the fight and it looked as if Mayorga broke his hand in the 12 round and the fight was stopped. Better fight then I suspected but at least on my scorecard, Cotto was winning by a wide margin and the ending was unsatisfactory even though we won our bet. Plus 1 unit for the straight bet.
