Good call. I hate the media's portrayal of this record as I really think it is way overblown. It is truthful but not once have I read an article or even a note about the the context of this record. The other teams that won 20 in a row IMO accomplished something much more difficult. They actually won 20 in a row in a 60 minute game. The Flyers I recall as a kid. In the 70's there was no OT and no shootouts. I know the Wings have won a few of these games in OT and/or shootout but I don't know how many but I already recall at least one and I'm sure it is more than that. The record is total apples to oranges. The Wings streak is more like an unbeaten streak although that is not a direct comparison either since if they lost in OT the teams they would be chasing for that record (which I don't know what it is) would of course likely not had the opportunity to lose in OT.
Other reasons that made this a good call: a) West coast team with a 9:40 a.m. start. Probably earliest game of the season. No reason for NBC/NHL to schedule this game first. Yeah, I have a chip on my shoulder. b) SJ on its longest road trip of the season (9 games). Should be interesting to see how they do at lowly CLB.
