Notices on threads and posters

Notices on threads and posters We've had a flurry of requests to make it so notices on certain threads or posters can be sent to members. We're in the process of making threads initiated by Fezzik or Alf sticky for 24 hours, but there's more that can be done. Dale from our IT will follow me with the method for being alerted to a post from a certain thread, but now we have to figure out how we make that valuable. Most of the requests were to be notified about half-time picks. Should we start a single ongoing thread called "Half-time picks" and ard request that they all be posted there? Not sure. Your input is appreciated.
anthony kudos for getting on this so quickly.....I think most of us have the capability of email on our phones, so a email alert that they have posted would be key for me...as I am not always sitting in front of my computer, and cant really get on my blackberry and login to LVAsports.....so this would be key for me
Here is how to be alerted by email when a thread updates: First the you need to go into 'USERCP' then under 'Settings & Options' ensure that 'Default Thread Subscription Mode' is set to 'Instant email notification'. Be sure to save changes. Then In the thread that you wish to be alerted when updated, at the top of the thread area is 'Thread Tools', click, select 'Subscribe to this thread' Thats it. If you would rather the alerts go to your cell phone, update your email settings to reflect that email address.
Should we start a single ongoing thread called "Half-time picks" and ard request that they all be posted there? Not sure. Your input is appreciated.
My recommendation is to create a thread called "Official LVA Sports picks." The initial message should have information on how to subscribe to the thread (so people don't just reply with a stupid response that then generates emails to all who have already subscribed, because giving a stupid response is the easiest way to subscribe to a thread :)). In fact it might be better to only let people in certain classes (the whole list includes what, VIP Member, Junior Member, Administrator and Moderator?) post in that thread to begin with. This way, when Fezzik writes a review of a new property or something else less time-sensitive it doesn't generate an email. And by having an official LVA Sports picks thread, it does satisfy a certain segment of the community interested in recordkeeping. Finally, ask yourself whether you want the text of new posts included in subscription emails, or just notification that there is a new post. If you want to drive traffic to the forum, I recommend just a notification, although people on phones would not appreciate that.

it's already very easy. The poster just needs to keep his posts for the season, in one thread. For example, Alf could start a thread "Golf Matchups" and then also continually post his plays to that thread. Then everyone can Subscribe to that thread and get Instant Notification by email. Especially effective, for "2nd halves" my 2 cents
