The Open Championship Graeme McDowell -105 vs. Martin Kaymer
G Mac had the lead last week and just did not make anything in the final round. This course from early reports has wider fairways than in the past and that may help Kaymer who is wilder off the tee, but the sight lines are difficult and Kaymer is still working on his golf swing. My next favorite quote for the week is:....every time Tiger Woods doesn't tee it up and Irishman wins a major.....= advantage G Mac?
Nick Watney -125 vs. Phil Mickelson
Watney hot, Mickelson not. Mickelson is in a bad pairing with Oosty and Kaymer, these guys will be all over this track. Read my Early Open observations for more on Mickelson.
Matt Kuchar -105 vs. Steve Stricker
Excellent matchup, two outstanding putters, but we'll side with Kuch here who played links golf last week, while Stricker played the friendly confines of no wind and Illinois at its best with perfect soft greens.
A. Quiros vs B. Watson
7024. B. Watson +100
As we mentioned Quiros has a shoulder injury. But what I really like in this matchup is that Bubba despite all the length in the world, is hitting a decent percentage (60%) of fairways and when the course offers a wide open look as Royal St. Georges does, no trees, he can work the ball around the course as good as any in the game today. Quiros hits primarily a straight ball with a bit of a cut, but is erratic all the time. Can't see him making the cut here.
Nicolas Colsaerts -120 vs. Thomas Aiken
I watched plenty of the Scottish Open, all three rounds on the Golf Channel in fact, (shortened to 54 holes). Colsaerts is an impressive player, hits the ball a mile, putts very well and has a win and four Top 10's on the Euro circuit. He fired three consistent rounds of 69, 66 and 67 while Aiken missed the cut with a 72 and 75. No brainer.
