Ortiz vs. Campbell No lines set for this fight yet. (At least for me) A few lines I've seen have been Ortiz as even or around -150.
This is a fight of a fading former champion against a up and comer with a questionable heart. In Campbell's last fight against the light hitting but undefeated Timothy Bradley. Campbell looked old and Bradley was all over him. He escaped with a NC after the fight was stopped do to a cut and the commission reversed the in-ring decision that gave Bradley the win. Campbell was cut over the left eye and I believe he could have continued but he wanted out as he was getting blown out.
Ortiz was to be the next Oscar De La Hoya and he looked the part until he quit while fighting Maidana. It was a flat out brawl up until he quit. Half a dozen or so Knock downs between the two fighters, and Ortiz got opened up bad. He said the wrong things after the fight and everyone turned against him. Since then he fought a few tune ups and now may be on track for great things.
Campbell is moving up in weight for the second time though he's struggled to make Lightweight for some time now. Not only do I believe that Campbell is fading, I believe his power has faded.
Ortiz is the much younger fighter. Maybe too young for this type of fight. Ortiz has serious power and I think he may be able to end this fight before the distance.
My feeling is that Campbell is and was over rated. He lost a few fights to B level fighters before winning a few against bigger names but still seriously flawed fighters. (Diaz and Funeka)
From 2003-2006 Campbell was 7-4 in his fights.
Ortiz is a bit of a mystery. He looks to have all the tools to be the next great thing in boxing but showed some serious heart issues against Maidana. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as he surely wasn't fully prepared for Maidana getting off the mat once in the first round and twice in the second. Maidana is one tough SOB. Ortiz had never dealt with that kind of adversity before and it showed. I believe that Ortiz has matured from that experience.
I expect Ortiz to win this fight and win it going away. I believe that Campbell has faded and at 38 is about ready for retirement.
I'd bet Ortiz to -200 to win one Unit.
Campbell does have a chance in this fight. He could out box Ortiz to a decision but I doubt it. Ortiz is the faster fighter and hits much harder these days.
