Poker Player Leaves $300,000 in a taxi cab

Poker Player Leaves $300,000 in a taxi cab I've heard of stuff like this happening and it usually does not end this well. Some times (and I know a couple cases where the evidence is pretty strong) it's just a fabricated story to cover up a hired players misappropriation of team bankroll. Even got a late night call once from a well-known BJ team captain who needed a lie detector set up immediately to test a player who had some goofy story involving lost money. This was obviously a genuine case here. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/vegas-cabbie-turns-in-300000-found-in-back-seat/ The $1000 reward/tip is being criticized as cheap because it was the cab company, not the player, who forked it over. Deferred reward promises do not always pan out so not sure this cabbie gets any more, even though the player said it's in the works. Carelessness with money is something I've wrestled with for years. I'm sure AC will attest to my crappy accounting and record-keeping but one thing I cured myself of was handling money in a vehicle. Just keep everything on your person. Leave nothing in your car or hotel room. It's just a disaster waiting to happen. It took losing a lot for me to kick those lazy, convenient habits. Cash, chips, electronic devices, a rolex etc. One thing I definitely learned over the years is do not use valet. Most pros have way too many "interesting" things in their vehicle to turn possession of it over for even a few minutes. I once parked in from of the Sahara and told valet I'm just running in for 2 minutes (if that). They said ok but I must leave keys in the car in case I take too long and they have to move it. Left keys, ran in and was out in exactly 2 minutes. My car had been moved and 2 purple chips were missing from a slot bucket I had on the passenger floor. They left the smaller denom chips. Didn't discover it until I got to the next stop and just rationalized that I did it to myself with my carelessness because leaving a couple thousand in chips in a slot bucket is just plain asking for it. Also had my car broke into two times in the self park garages. One time they got in the trunk where I had about 30K in chips stashed. They didn't find it but the feeling walking towards the car upon seeing my trunk open was one that I won't soon forget. Very sick feeling. Have a friend who worked valet many years. He said it's pretty routine to rifle through a car looking for drugs and money. Drugs they always take. I guess it's not so easy to say "your valet guy must have stole my 8-ball". Money it just depends, but taking some $$ and leaving enough to maybe pass the initial eye check is a common practice. I only valet my rental cars now even though I gave up the lazy habit of having valuables in my own vehicle.
