Rachel Alexandra gets beat at the Fair Grounds Sat right off the lead, fast track, had everything her way. Got passed in the stretch. Hope they don't make up some reason not to face Zenyatta next month.
Looks like Rachel won't race next month. She not in top form, so her owner and trainer don't want to rush her. If both horses race all year, I hope they'll eventually meet. Would be nice to see.
this is really sad. i truly believe that this race was never going to happen no matter how rachel ran. this is one sport (gambling aside) that the fan never gets what they want. a race like this would bring so much posative attention. instead eveyone looks like they'll be let down once again
Rachel Alexandra's retirement was announced yesterday. They had an entire year to run her against Zenyatta, but it never happened. Not sure who to blame, but it's really too bad for racing. This is kind of matchup that gets people interested. They have to find a way to make these things happen. I knew it was too good to be true - kind of like Pacquiao vs Mayweather.
Would have loved to see the race happen but I applaud the owners for not forcing the issue as 2010 Rachel is not even close to 2009 Rachel's form and wouldn't stand a chance against Z. That said, I think Z loses to 2009 Rachel. Guess one shouldn't be surprised about her inability to carry over her 2009 form considering her grueling 2009 campaign.
