Rampage v. Machida (11/20)

Rampage v. Machida (11/20) Disclosure: I know nothing about MMA, and do not bet on MMA. I received the following text message from a highly rated offshore book: From: Rampage Jackson "[Book X] has me at +215 against that punk Machida. Easy money, bet on me and get paid! UFC123 at [Book X]." Putting aside that Rampage and I are apparently "boys" (seeing that we text message each other :D), doesn't basic strategy dictate that if the Book is begging me to bet on Rampage, then I should bet on Machida? I've never watchd a UFC fight, and I'm not going to watch this one, but I may throw a little something on Machida simply because of this......and because I read an ESPN Magazine article in June about Machida that said the first thing he does when he wakes up in the morning is drink his urine. That just sounds like a dude who can kick some a$$.
I would be inclined to agree. When I first read this post, I thought it was from TheDude :)
I would be inclined to agree. When I first read this post, I thought it was from TheDude :)
Funny - I can see why you thought that. In all seriousness though, my original post was not a joke. I really did receive that text from a reputable offshore book. And, I really did read an ESPN Magazine article about Machida and about how he drinks his pee - disgusting.
Why?!?
Funny - I can see why you thought that. In all seriousness though, my original post was not a joke. I really did receive that text from a reputable offshore book. And, I really did read an ESPN Magazine article about Machida and about how he drinks his pee - disgusting.
My question is "why does he drink his own urine?" Is that supposed to make him stronger or have some other positive effect on him...other than showing how "tough" he is?

Is that supposed to make him stronger or have some other positive effect on him...other than showing how "tough" he is?
Quote from the 5/5/10 article: "Yoshizo [Machida's father] also passed along another tradition that could make The Dragon [Machida] a scary opponent: urine therapy. That's a fancy way of saying Lyoto [Machida], his father and his brothers drink their first pee every morning. The benefits of the act may be unsupported by science, but its proponents claim the day's first urine replenishes vital elements that the body loses overnight. 'The mystique of living in the Amazon is something that is not often seen,' Lyoto says. 'If I was in a fight with someone like that, I might be scared too. There is something mysterious about me. None of this is for show. It is who I am, where I am from and what my family is like. It is not for me to say I have more spirit than the guys I fight, but that is what I aim for. Opponents see that, and it can have an effect. If it works to my advantage, I am fine with that.'" If I were in a fight with this guy, I would be scared to death for him to even breath on me with his pee-breath.
