Sat UFC 116 Yoshihiro Akiyama -205 (2 units) vs. Chris Leben Sexyama was outraged that Wanderlei Silva his original opponent WD and Leben put in. Sometimes that will help the underdog, but in this situation the fight has been moved to the 2nd main event and Sexyama is happy about that. Leben fought just two weeks ago, (+300 underdog) and was losing the fight IMO to Aaron Simpson, and somehow the ref jumps in and with a quick stoppage, Leben wins the fight. Fighting after two weeks, you could say he is sharp, but you can also handicap that it is very difficult to get up, train, study, relax, and not be exhausted. Having seen Leben fight many times and seen him up close at the public workout on Wed, this guy moves like a pregnant Yak. He is slow, and a headcase too boot. He has also said in many interviews that can be viewed on-line that he needs the money. Sexyama looks in tip top shape. He moves very well, 10x quicker than Leben and has multiple tactics to win with. He hasn't fought in a year, but has patiently waited for another UFC fight. This contest looks like a major mismatch in class and skill. Brock Lesnar -130 vs. Shane Carwin Carwin has great hands, but it will surprise me if he gets the better of Lesnar here because Lesnar doesn't get hit cleanly with anything. He is by far the superior athlete in this matchup. He moves like a middle-weight at 265 pounds. Carwin has never been in the ring with such an athlete, imposing figure and the talent to bring him down. Gonzaga was on his way out of the UFC and Mir was a shot fighter, both whom Carwin hit on the chin and exposed. Don't see that happening with Brock. The round prop is at OV/UN 1.5 rounds for a 5 round fight! If this fight goes more than 2 rounds which could be a strategy here for Lesnar, (doubt he has the patience) you could see a boring match dominated by take downs and that also favors Lesnar. Carwin is 3 years older than Lesnar. The price has come down on Lesnar from a high of -180 to a low of -125 now. Cannot see it getting any lower.
The Remo Williams quote "moves like a pregnant yak"... Classic.
Ah HAH! Thought I could sneak one in there Tru, Classic indeed .....how about, "you would be better off to eat this can, than what is in it."

Same movie.....from Mr. Chu
Same movie.....from Mr. Chu
Rumors about a sequel pop up now and again. I had always hoped we'd see more. I remember reading the destroyer series as a kid. Great stuff.
5dimes has reduced lines for the UFC. -125 on Lesnar.
There has been a lot of talk about the Lesnar's switch to a southpaw stance. Many think that it is a disadvantage. I think they are flat wrong. He's still a right handed fighter. There are many great fighters that are converted fighters. De La Hoya, Cotto etc. etc.. This should allow him to keep his left back and against his temple to block Carwin's right hand. There has also been a lot of talk about Carwin's power with both hands. It isn't real. He is a dominate orthodox fighter. Yes he can throw power lefts while dirty boxing but he doesn't have a powerful ranged left handed attack. I may be wrong but I think Lesnar has a reach advantage but needs to fight tall. He lungs to much and ends up off balance when trading punches far to often. That very well could be Carwin's path to victory.
No one has really addressed Lesnar's long layoff. Very tough to pop right back to form against reasonable competition, which this is.
No one has really addressed Lesnar's long layoff. Very tough to pop right back to form against reasonable competition, which this is.
I discounted the layoff but it is of concern. He has known that he was to fight Carwin for a long time and has train exclusively for him. He's also only fought 5 times ever so it could be argued he's not only rusty but inexperienced. Imagine if he had 5 years training in MMA. Scary. Though it isn't like Carwin has a lot of experience either. His twelve fights amount to a bit more then 16 minutes in the ring. Lesnar has about 13 minutes in the ring.
