Technical Analysis of an NHL total

Technical Analysis of an NHL total There are numerous ways to handicap NHL totals. One parameter that I utlize is technical analysis.I thought that I would share a play based almost exclusively on technical factors as an example. CBJ/Dall over 5.5 (-120). Dallas is having recent problems keeping the puck out of its own net. They have given up 20 goals in their last 5 games. In fact, their PK unit has killed an embarrassing 53.8% of the power plays during this 5 game stretch. The Stars lead the NHL in power play chances (4.4 pg)and are number two in power play goals per game.In addition, both teams' PP units have lit the lamp on over 25% of their chances in the last 5 games. Finally,The Stars are 6-0 "over" when they are playing with revenge against an opponent who beat them in Dallas in their last matchup. Columbus ranks 29th in scoring defense (3.5 gpg).Their goalie,Mason, has now played to 9 overs and 3 unders in his road starts. In fact, the Blue Jackets are now 13-3 "over" when playing on the road.Columbus has the NHL's number one ranked PP unit (23.2%).The Jackets score 3.2 gpg and allow a league's worst 4.0 gpg when playing on the road. Even though I don't rely 100% on technical factors when betting an NHL total, I though that tonight's matchup offers a unique opportunity to share how one can break down a contest using mostly technical factors. Earlier, I posted a play based almost exclusively on fundamental factors (Pitt/Ottawa over 5.5).The Ottawa -115 side play over Minnesota was based on neither fundamental nor technical factors (equipment ruined in a fire).Ideally, one can learn to utilize numerous tools when 'capping the NHL.In my opinion, you cannot beat the books using only one technique in your handicapping arsenal (at least I can't). Even though the CBJ/Dall over 5.5 may lose, it does offer a unique opportunity to demonstrate how numerous technical data can be used to handicap the NHL. Good luck and Happy Holidays to all. charliej
tough loss 3-1 dallas..tough loss
I would love to see more NHL plays posted.
I would love to see more NHL plays posted.
me too, and I really don't care if they are winners or losers, I'm just interested in how charliej and others handle technical analysis(the hell with fundamental).

Great post. Thanks Charliej. This is the kind of analytical knowledge I am hoping to learn about as a member here
