Tiger Question Alf or Dude (or anyone else that wants to chime in),
I layed -185 on Tiger to not have any majors this year. In light of his recent play I am thinking of hedging some back now at +200 on one win. Thoughts?? And thanks.
No joke I was thinking of posting what a GOOD bet it would be to lay -185 that Tiger does NOT win a major this year. And then ask for other's opinion. I just DVR enough of this to be dangerous---to myself.
I watched on DVR some of the tournament and I know he shot well yesterday. I followed Alf but actually caught a break as I faded Tiger with McDowell, Donald and Watney. So I won 2 out of 3. All three of those guys were plus money against Tiger.
It is a long season but Tiger's game just seems too inferior to any of these top guys right now. Doral and Torrey Pines are courses he has dominated on and although he gets a T10 here it was filled with some curious play if you take the whole weekend as a whole. He hit a 122 yrd drive on one hole and a 170 yrd drive another during one of the days.
Honestly, that Kaymer didn't beat Tiger is stunning. Fading Tiger has to be the sharp play.
One final comment I'll make is that alot of the announcers still show Tiger a great deal of respect. Probably alot of people expect a big comeback for Tiger at some point. Golf is a tough game when you lose it, you may never be competitive at the same level. I don't want to be too dramatic but guys have gone years between PGA tour wins. Some never come back. Mike Weir Masters winner? Begging for exemptions now. Duval? Not even sure what he won in his day but far from a top player today. DiMarco? Decent player a few years ago using career money list exemptions to even enter a tournament. I finally heard Miller say that it has been awhile since Tiger won.
Of course he's better than all of these other guys by far but the flip side to this is how can one not be impressed by the game Dustin Johnson has or Watney and then the Europeans. These guys are for real. Tiger has to be at least near the top of his game to beat them.
Tiger just needs to get a few hookers back in his game and he'll be fine. I wouldn't bet against him this year.
He had a year of divorce, lawyers, etc... Plus he probably could have been drug tested around child custody while fighting it out with his wife.
Now he's free to go back to hookers and HGH.
He should be fine.
Tiger has had two decent rounds this entire year. The swing is brutal with the driver, with irons he is still great.
His only chance to win a major is at Augusta IMO, but his game is not sharp enough to win there at present, especially the short game. The other three majors this year are too tight and feature too much rough, which the MASTERS is exactly the opposite.
Skeeter has made many good points.
The fields are too deep right now for him to dominate or win a major, so I'd favor the "no."
now with Matchbook gone as an outfor futures- where does an American find the out to bet "no" on tiger? my usuals- 5d, grk, and bookmaker are all woosies. Where do I need to deposit some moolah to make more moolah?
i bet this last week at -150 with a credit book..
-185 is still ok but when you get in after the boat has left the port i would not go wild
the type of hedge you talk about is a bit of a saver but not a full hedge - you could get fully fucked if he wins two....
if you are worried take your shot in one of the majors - average price will be +650 at least
My opinion, as bad as his long game has been, the short game, chipping and putting has rescinded even more. His chipping was unreal, now it is average with changes and his putting is terrible, You can not win Augusta without good chipping and putting.
No chance!
People don't understand what an expert Haney was on the short game, he is the best in my opinion. I worked with him in the early 90's. He was unreal. You can see that now in Tiger's short game, not nearly as sharp and technique is different in bad way. Also, lack of devotion to short game b/c of long game struggles does not help. Will he be back winning again in majors and dominating again, yes sir, will it be this year, I say not!
