UFC 111: St. Pierre vs. Hardy (Newark, NJ) and Boxing

UFC 111: St. Pierre vs. Hardy (Newark, NJ) and Boxing first off the picks that will not be bets. Georges St. Pierre over Dan Hardy Kurt Pellegrino over Fabricio Camoes Nate Diaz over Rory Markham -NOTE: Markham was 7 lbs over the 170-lb limit. Nate Diaz is also moving up in weight here. Too many unknowns, but I think Diaz is the more well-rounded guy. Rousimar Palhares over Tomasz Drawl -One of the best fights on the card. Grappler and ground master vs. good striker. Jared Hamman over Rodney Wallace -both looking for first win in UFC. Not interested in either side. Wagers: Shane Carwin (+140) over Frank Mir Mir should be a small fav here, but I am not sold on him. Mir beat Nogueira when Nog had staph infection and was half dead. He also beat Lesnar, who was in his first fight in the octagon and then got dominated in the wrestling and in the clinch in the rematch. He beat Cheick Kongo b/c Kongo was caught off-guard since he thought Mir was going to try and take him down right away. This is the same Frank Mir that also got dominated by Brandon Vera (who was the smallest heavyweight in the UFC at the time). Mir has put on a bunch of weight b/c he is under the disillusion that he lost to Lesnar b/c he wasn't big enough. That's poppycock. He lost to Lesnar b/c his wrestling stinks. Both guys have the potential to gas out early since Carwin finishes his fights quickly. Carwin hits really hard, harder than Lesnar. Jon Fitch (-320) over Ben Saunders Saunders got dominated on the ground by Mike Swick, Fitch's American Kickboxing Academy teammate, in a previous fight. Fitch is the much better wrestler than Swick. Fitch is clearly the #2 guy at 170 in the UFC. Ricardo Almeida (-148) over Matt Brown Brown is a tough as nails guy, but Almeida is much more skilled. Jim Miller (-315) over Mark Bocek Easiest pick on the card. Miller is a much better wrestler than Bocek. He's also the hometown kid. Matthew Riddle (-225) over Greg Soto Soto has better BJJ, but not by much. Riddle the better wrestler and striker.
SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT SUPER SIX: Arthur Abraham (-181) over Andre Dirrell The Showtime ratings will continue to decline for this tournament b/c the foreign fighters are better than the Americans.
SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT SUPER SIX: Arthur Abraham (-181) over Andre Dirrell The Showtime ratings will continue to decline for this tournament b/c the foreign fighters are better than the Americans.
Abraham may be better then Dirrell, but Dirrell is the better boxer. I showed a way to bet Abraham by KO and Dirrell by Decision that may be a better bet.
I actually like Abraham by decision.
I actually like Abraham by decision.
Really? In Direll's hometown, with all judges from his hometown and the Referee from his hometown? (Detroit) Abraham has 1 decision since '06. You should bet Abraham by decision you can get a good price for that.

Very nice picks either way.
That had to be one of the most boring events ever by UFC. Every match was a lay on top of and try to pound them out, which I like but not every match. GSP is the most boring fighter there is, he wins but definately not good entertainment. Just my opinion.

If you are looking for stand up, start watching boxing. I for the most part detest the ground game but I realize that it is part of the sport. A huge part of the sport. GSP, at least in last few events, has been boring. Just like watching Klitschko can be boring. For the fighters it is about winning. GSP would be a fool to fight stand up against Hardy. Hardy is terrible on the ground but decent at stand up. GSP takes what his opponent gives him. Hardy sucks on the ground and GSP is very good at it. So... take him to the ground. GSP could have snapped Hardy's elbow in the first round and held back. It was dumb on his part and dumb that Hardy didn't submit. Many if not most people that are entertained by MMA are just blood thristy SOB's including myself. I watch boxing and can enjoy the sweet science and the brawls. I watch MMA to enjoy getting out with some friends and making money, the blood is a bonus. Yes the event was boring, I find most of the fights boring. Maybe betting some money on the fights will make it less boring for you, it does for me. GL
dirrell was the much better fighter. ward is 1:1 odds to win the tournament (sheridian odds), americans are the better boxers not the europeans.

Where we discussing which nationality had the better boxers? Direll and Ward aren't even the best in the division. Bute could handle either quite easily. If Dawson could cut a few pounds he'd also easily beat these A-/B+ fighters.
