UFC 118 (Boston, MA)

UFC 118 (Boston, MA) Main card: BJ Penn (-275) over Frank Edgar Penn needed that wake-up call in Abu Dhabi. Penn is a bigger 155 and Edgar is one of the smaller guys in the weight class. Kenny Florian (-135) over Gray Maynard Coin flip here, but I think Florian is more well-rounded. Maynard stayed on the feet with Nate Diaz and barely won. If he does that here, he will get crushed. Maynard is strong and an excellent wrestler, but he can't strike at all. Florian is not a wrestler, but defends takedowns well and is dangerous off his back. Nate Diaz (-195) over Marcus Davis Davis is aging and Nate Diaz improves all the time. Prelims: Gabe Ruediger (+277) over Joe Lauzon Strictly a value play here. Lauzon should not be a -315 here. People focus too much on Ruediger's terrible choices on TUF, but he has won his last 6 fights and has some talent. Andre Winner (-113) over Nik Lentz Coinflip here as well. However, Winner is probably the most impressive of the UK imports that UFC has had in recent years. Nick Osipczak (-185) over Greg Soto Nick showed really good wrestling in a close loss to Rick Story. No bets, but I would obviously pick Couture, lean with Maia, Dan Miller (Salter is a decent value though at +215) and Pierce.
I'm on Penn Florian Diaz I'm seriously looking at Couture in the first round or fight doesn't start the second round.
Just my opinion, but guys like Maynard and Sonnen hurt the sport. Does anyone really want to watch a guy do a take down then do little to nothing while laying on his opponent? Eventually they will need to address this style of fighting or loss a lot of fans. I've said it before, it should be 20 seconds. If you can't start landing punches or attempting a submission, stand the fighters up.

I don't disagree that some of the controlling wrestlers can make for boring fights, but at least Maynard landed a few shots and cut Florian.

BJ was not BJ again tonite, something is wrong here, he moves like he's 41 and not 31,...... did he have to cut weight for this fight? is he on medication?
Florian had a bad gameplan. You can't be a counter-puncher against an elite wrestler like Maynard. You have to go forward and throw combos. The only people unhappier with the Edgar result has to be UFC and Zuffa. Edgar vs. Maynard may be a good fight, but won't draw a dime as a headliner on PPV. Has to be a co-main event under a strong fight at the top (i.e. St. Pierre vs. Koscheck in December).
