UFC 125 Resolution

UFC 125 Resolution I was present at the workouts and just watched the weigh in, took some good notes etc, hopefully they pay off, this is an average card at best, but the matchups are very interesting. Gray Maynard -140 vs Frankie Edgar Edgar is living off two back to back wins over HOF BJ Penn and honestly BJ Penn never looked worse in those fights, out of shape, slow, cocky, didn't train and certainly under estimated the improved faster Edgar. Maynard 11-0 has recent solid wins against Kenny Florian, Jim Miller and Nate Diaz AND defeated Edgar for Edgar's only loss. Now you can pitch revenge or re-match or whatever, Maynard dominated that fight, threw Edgar all over the mat and since then has gotten stronger and much quicker. ?? Well I've seen Maynard here in Las Vegas (his current residence) many times and Thursday at the public workout at the MGM Grand, he looked fast, crisp, light on his feet and IMO is the better overall fighter, wrestler, striker and tougher. Brian Stann +145 vs Chris Leben Leben owes me money. He has heart and never quits and cost me dearly vs Akiyama and Aaron Simpson, both of whom were ahead in their fights and came out with a loss to the crazy, gutsy but awkward fighting style of Leben. Stann a U.S. Marines officer, former WEC Champ, 9-3, has the skills to defeat Leben and finally someone with the same endurance and heart will knock him out or outlast him for a decision. Stann is strictly a stand-up striker. I saw him at the workout and his stand-up is pure boxing from his boxing in the military days, and one of the best form strikers I have ever seen in MMA. If he stands toe to toe with Leben as no one else has, this will be an exciting fight and Leben on the canvas. Dong Hyun Kim -115 vs Nate Diaz Diaz has a brown belt in Judo. Kim is a 4th degree Black Belt in Judo and will throw this kid around the Octagon like Denzel Washington did in The Book of Eli. Diaz has no ground game while Kim 13-0-1, will win this fight with a very boring style of takedowns and or a possible submission. Kim is too big, too strong for the younger Diaz who has had trouble with strong fighters like Joe Stevenson. Leans on: Clay Guida, Josh Grispi and Brad Tavares
Thanks Alf for your thoughts and write up. Gray is the bigger and stronger man. Frankie will not have the punching bag he faced his last 2 fights with BJ and won't be able to dance around the cage all night. Maynard will be coming. I agree, Maynard gets his 2nd win over Edgar. I took a huge loss (at least for me) with Akiyama against Leben. I was at that fight and had made some cash on Blackjack on the trip and decided to throw a bunch of it on Akiyama at -200. Didn't work out. Love everything Stann stands for and would love to see him pull off the upset. I just can't see Kim submitting Diaz. I can see Nick pulling off an upset with a submission but he'll have his work cut with with as you mentioned the bigger and stronger Kim. Going with Guida as well. Good luck.
Guida at -150 has not moved, which usually means the larger underdog wagers are yet to come, so if you are going to bet Guida, perhaps wait a bit...
UFC 125: Resolution Played this last night in early evening. Gray Maynard (-140) over Frankie Edgar. Maynard way too big for the smaller, yet faster Edgar. BJ Penn was able to take down Edgar easily late in their last fight, but was too tired to keep him down in the 5th round. Brian Stann (+140) over Chris Leben The hard fights Leben has been in will take its toll here. A co-main for a seemingly average Stann? UFC sees more marketability with Stann. This is set up for him to win. Leben's had some legal issues in last couple of months. Brandon Vera (+120) over Thiago Silva Must-win for Vera to keep his job. Always has had the highest of potential. I think he realizes it here finally. Dong Hyun Kim (-115) over Nate Diaz Nate's striking sucks, unlike his older brother Nick, who is a good striker and would actually be GSP's toughest matchup at 170 if Nick wasn't fighting in Strikeforce. I've been riding the Korean since he's been in UFC and he hasn't let me down yet. Other small leans/plays: Brad Tavares (-210) over Phil Baroni Baroni will gas out by R2. Other picks/not plays: Daniel Roberts over Greg Soto Josh Grispi over Dustin Poirier Mike Brown over Diego Nunes Jeremy Stephens over Marcus Davis Antonio McKee over Jacob Volkmann Also like Clay Guida over Takanori Gomi but waiting on better line.
AAAHHH Leben you piece of garbage, sweet revenge,,,
Better boxing is creeping into the UFC finally. Those short straight body shots Stann was landing where sweet.
we'll take Edgar in the rematch...
That is the third fight draw I've had wagered heavily. Not a robbery, but I had Maynard winning.
