UFC Fight Night 28 Wed Sept 4 UFC Fight Night 28, Wed Sept 4 on FoxSports1 takes place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Brazil has carried a strong home fighter advantage. Brazilians fight in 9 of the 11
matches and in only one is it Brazilian vs Brazilian. That's eight fights where, at the
minimum, the crowd and support will be clearly on one side.
1501 Marcos Vinicius appears to be the only underdog from Brazil. His opponent
is on an 8 fight win streak but both appear to be making their UFC debut.
2002 Ivan George -165 vs Keith Wisniewski is a fight that I'm interested in.
Wisniewski is 0-3 in the UFC and has fought just once in the last 23 months
losing a split decision in April 2012.
Ivan George has been fighting regularly (every 3-4 months) for a few years now.
He's won 10 of his last 11 and all 10 wins by submission. His last 5 wins have all
been by rear naked choke and his last 4 in the first round. The fight log suggests
he's made serious strides in his submission game. He's the current Jungle Fight
Lightweight Champion. This is Georges UFC debut and he moves up in weight to
take this fight as a replacement for the injured Marcelo Guimaraes. These are
all probable negatives. Short notice, moving up in weight suggests that George
will do just about anything to get into the UFC and even though Wisniewski has
only fought once in close to two years, he's considered a tough out and has
lost some close fights. I don't think a KO is too likely here.
Seems that George will certainly be looking to go to with what's propelled him to
this point and a George by Submission price is what I'm interested in. 5Dimes hangs
those later this week and since this is an undercard fight and George's submission
spree does not entirely correlate to his lifetime submission pct of 54%, they may
put up a price that would be worth taking. Anything plus money would probably
be a take here. If he wins, it would seem this would be how he'll do it.
