US Open...........Breaking News We are off any and all bets involving Robert Allenby. One of my 97 golf websites that I monitor came up with the following, which I believe to be 100% true:
According to iseekgolf.com, Robert Allenby incurred a wrist injury over the weekend, and may not be able to compete in this week's U.S. Open.
"I took my kids out fishing on Sunday in the boat and I must have twisted it somehow throwing the fish up on to the boat and then back into the water," said Allenby during his practice round this afternoon. "I can hardly hold the club at the moment. ... I can’t even squeeze my fist at present it is hurting so much. ... I will get some physio this afternoon and have some more treatment." He withdrew after nine holes of the St. Jude Classic due to tonsillitis, which he has opted to combat with antibiotics over having his tonsils removed. "Then yesterday the wrist came up and there is also some bruising on the right arm as well. I am not 100% sure that it isn’t a reaction to the antibiotics but I now feel confident that is a case of doing too much on the boat last Sunday." With respect to his ability to play this week, Allenby said, "I won’t make a final decision until Thursday morning." He is scheduled to go off the first tee at 7:55 a.m. PT.
We are off Allenby vs Weir, don't want any part of Weir the way he has played lately, but now we are ON Stenson vs Allenby. Also, I have played Allenby +195 NO to make the cut.
The Aussie site always has the latest up-to-date info on their countrymen and we know from the past that the Aussie players shun the mainstream media, but talk to their people.
Yes, we have been down this road before, with Padraig Harrington killing us at the British Open etc, and sure beware of the wounded warrior, but the rough is murder for bad wrists, ask Luke Donald. At this time we have to respect the new information.
