Verizon Heritage The Verizon Heritage Tournament is once again held at the Harbor Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island. SC. The par 71 layout will only play to 6,973 yards and has some of the smallest greens on the PGA Tour.
This is a Masters hangover week for many players. We are looking for solid previous experience in this event. This is target golf at its finest.
KJ Choi -130 vs. Paul Casey
Going into the back nine on Sunday at the Masters KJ looked like he was EVEN Money to win. He had just 8 puts in his first 8 holes, but then pushed too hard and Mickelson stole the show. We'll bet against Casey again this week, injured or not his confidence has to be very low after missing the cut at the Masters.
Choi hasn't played here in years. Casey was T11 LY. However, Casey was on a roll at this time LY. He won the Shell Houston Open, then finished Top 20 at the Masters and then T11 here. He was playing so well he cracked the Top 5 in the World Rankings. I would play Choi at -160 or less.
Mike Weir -120 vs. Sergio Garcia
Both of these players made the cut at the Masters and struggled on the weekend. Weir is obviously the better putter and will hit more greens than Sergio.
Luke Donald -140 vs. Stewart Cink
Yes, Cink won here twice but in the last 5 years just one Top 10. He said at the Masters that he is not comfortable over the ball and his current form is brutal with just one round in the 60's since Feb 6th. Luke was T2 here last year and is much more consistent tee to green than Cink.
Boo Weekly -115 vs. Kevin Na
Na just played in his first Masters and should be exhausted, while Boo has not played in two weeks and should be rested and ready. The 2x winner of this event the past three years is a target machine into these tiny greens and I expect his best finish of the season this week.
1st Round
Ricky Barnes -130 vs. Lee Janzen
If Barnes plays anything like he did in the Masters, this is a slam dunk. Janzen is old and no threat to any event and has missed 5 of 6 cuts.
