The WGC CA Championship is held at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral. It's a par 72 measuring 7,266 yards but usually plays longer than that with sea level and wind conditions. Most of the previous winners of this event at Doral (5th year) have excelled at the long ball, Els, Mickelson, Ogilvy, Tiger and they also spray the ball all over the track, but sharp enough to get away with it. We are banking that this week they will not.
Martin Kaymer -135 vs Tiger Woods
Perhaps we jumped the gun betting Kaymer early, but for the likes of me who the hell is betting on Tiger here? and why? Tiger has major swing issues and while he is working dilligently on that, his short game has suffered. If he turns it around and wins here, we'll all say about time, he can do it, but until then we are anti Tiger. Kaymer will play well IMO with no cut and try and keep his World No.#1 belt for another week. He was T3 here LY!
Graeme McDowell -125 vs Phil Mickelson
G Mac fired a 64 on Sunday last week at PGA National tying the course record. This is a very good sign, great for your confidence. Mickelson has few wins in Florida and he just hasn't been sharp enough to knock someone like G Mac (now No.#4 in the World, Phil is No.#6) down the rankings.
Matt Kuchar -125 vs Rory McIlroy
Rors is not taming the US courses that suit his game. He makes too many mental mistakes and should have missed the cut last week at the Honda. Kuch seems to be in a good frame of mind saying last week, "my swing is so solid right now, I just aim and pull the trigger." If not for some poor bunker play and a bad hole he could have won last week. He was also T3 here LY!
Alvaro Quiros +100 vs Jim Furyk
Don't know what exactly is wrong with my man Furyk. I talked to a few caddies and many media friendlies and they cannot put their finger on it. He changed equipment again this year and maybe a cool $10 mil winning the Fed Ex Cup has something to do with it, but until he shows better form we will go against him. Quiros is just stupid long off the tee and like his chances with the no cut format. He was T11 LY!
Steve Stricker +110 vs Lee Westwood
We obviously got the best of the number here, but I would still have played Stricker at the current number -110. Stricker tends to play well after a week off on courses that have firm and fast greens.
Westwood let us down again LW, no this is not revenge, just that he may be a bit weary now coming over playing the Matchplay event, near the lead after round one and then not getting anything out of his game the rest of the last week = advantage Stricker who was T16 here LY!
