10 dollar craps at the freemont

The Freemont had 10 dollar craps last friday at 4 in the afternoon.  The tables were packed and added energy to the whole casino !  It sure beats all the empty 15 dollar tables around town

It is rather amazing to me that people are embracing the $10 minimums sometimes found at some table games when, pre-covid, you could find $5 minimums everywhere. I wonder what event will come about for the minimums to climb to $25 and for people to yearn for the $15 minimums which are now the standard?---Reminds me of this -- a fool and his money are soon parted --- a foolish person spends money carelessly and will soon be penniless.

What's real, but hard to see unless you spend some time at the tables, is that even the $10 minimums DRASTICALLY reduce playing time. You want to make a place bet, that's either $10 or $12, too. A double odds bet is $20. So do as many people do, make a line bet, back it up with double odds, place a couple of numbers. Suddenly, you have over $50 in action on a single shooter. And one "hand," or a single pass line decision, only takes four rolls on average. So game it out and figure how much money you're betting if the minimum is "only" $10. You could easily tank several hundred bucks in the time it takes to eat an ice cream cone.

And of course, if you always wanted to bet that much, that option was always available. But the poor gambler who just wants to risk a hundred or two now must choose between three minutes of action or a slightly longer session on the 88% return slots.

With a $5 minimum, the tables would also be packed. Yeah, the "riffraff" would get to play. But I'd bet that the casino would make more money. After all, most gamblers play till it's gone. What's the bloody difference to the casino if it takes a little longer?

At 4 pm on a friday afternoon, I would much rather play 10 dollar craps at the Fremont on nice tables, than the 5 dollar games I have witnessed at Jerry's Nugget, or Ellis Island or Downrown Grand and I have played all of them in the last 6 months.  I do like playing at Ellis island in the mornings.  Anyone else here actually playing craps, and if so where are you playing these days

I generally don't play craps any more, though I used to play pretty often. The argument that higher limits make the tables "nicer" is specious, because any type of individual could show up at any time at any table. And many of them high(-er) rollers ain't so nice anyway. As to the conditions of the tables, dealers, etc., there's nothing preventing a casino from making a $5 game as "nice" as possible.

And to me, "nice" would be, I don't have to risk gobs and gobs of money to have a little fun. And as far as that goes, the most fun I can remember is when the El Cortez (and a few other downtown casinos) used to deal 25 cent craps...with 10x odds! Those games were epic, and always crowded.

Southpoint had $5 tables for craps and other games when ai was there the other day.

I learned to play craps 40 years ago at Binion's $1 with 10X

That was fun!
My go to now is Downtown Grand and Ellis Island $5 with 10X

i still have fun with the game, my bankroll is probably 50 times what I had back then

i know this is negative expecting but you can still win short term

Luck be a lady!

It's possible to play craps while just making one single bet at any given time but very few people do.    Most players want to spread multiple bets around which means a $10 table yields $40 of bets (at least) on any given roll after the point is established.

a $20 table almost requires a minimum $500 buy in or you won't play for very long.  And that's probably beyond most recreational gamblers' budget

I guess it's my Old Time Vegas mentality, but someone saying, "Hooray, this table minimum is ONLY $10!" kind of makes me choke.

And to your point, someone, let's say, making a $10 line bet and placing two numbers--maybe a hardway bet or two--is putting $30-40 in action and giving up a house edge of about $1. The average "hand" lasts four rolls, which average about two a minute at a busy table, so...30 hands an hour. So if you restrict yourself to only the most low house edge bets, you're still paying $30 an hour to stand there and play. That's damn well enough as far as I'm concerned. And of course, most players make more/worse bets.

So let's back up and figure out how much a full $5 table makes. Ten players, easily (more sometimes) at $15 an hour each, minimum. So the casino is making $150 an hour IF the players bet the minimum and IF they make only the best bets. Which never happens.

So when these greedy motherfuckers tried to convince everyone that they needed to raise the table limits to "only" $10, or more often, $15, I said adios to craps. Forever.
