Blackjack Switch

Did a search here, and the last post on Blackjack Switch was in 2007.

I played it for the first time last week, at Bellagio. Loved it.
$10 minimum on each hand (which amounts to $20 per).
You have to play both hands and same amt money on both.
You can switch the two top cards to improve one or both of your hands.
It seemed to improve things most of the time.
Blackjacks pay even money. Dealer 22 is a push instead of bust.

Bellagio has had it for only a few months.

Dealer hits on S17.
DAS, RSA, but no Surrender (they have Surrender on regular BJ).

Funny thing, the minimum to get rated was $15 a hand (which amounts to $30 per hand, but still?).
The minimum on a regular BJ game is $25.

Went to the table just to play my last night with a favorite dealer.
Surprised to see it was Blackjack Switch, which I wasn't familiar with.
I almost left but she talked me into staying.
Bought in for $300, cashed out $950 after 7 hours and lot of tipping.
I played on the Super Match side bet almost every hand and won well over half of the time.
Mostly got the pair for 1:1 but several 3 of a kind (5:1).
And a few 2 pair (8:1). 4 OK would pay 40:1.
Pit supervisor said they hadn't seen anybody have 4 0K in a while.
I was hoping, but not to be for me or anyone while I was playing.

My good session was probably a fluke, but I thought it was a fun game to play.
The Wizard Of Odds website has information about this game and I think that in the Las Vegas Blackjack Survey on the https://wizardofvegas.com website, it still lists which casinos offer this game.

From what I'm understanding, different casinos have different rules for this game and that because of this, the casino advantage can vary from casino to casino. So you can check into that!

Thanks, RecVP...I'm glad to know that.

You're very welcome!

If a person wants to play that game as well as possible, some playing strategy changes may need to be made and it definitely is not the same from casino to casino.

With the Las Vegas Blackjack Survey, the lower the percentage number of the casino advantage is, the better off that you are (at least the slower that your money will tend to drain -- if at all).

And since there is a side bet involved, maybe that should be checked out as well. I think that the Wizard Of Odds has a section dealing with Side Bets and their casino advantage, so try to check into that!

Congrats on the score! Yeah, it's most likely a fluke, but that's not always a bad thing.

I used to play blackjack switch some on past trips (it's in my reports), but I'm weaning myself off of it. The nice rule that some casinos had where you can switch to a blackjack (as opposed to a 21) seems to be MIA. The house edge from the best games these days - with perfect strategy - is about the same as from a decent ordinary blackjack game.

Speaking of strategy, there are two aspects to it - the usual hit/stand strategy, and switching strategy. Hit/stand strategy is a little different for BJS (more conservative). Most of the switching strategy is obvious, but some of it isn't. The site RecVPPlayer recommended can give you the heads up on both if you're still interested.

As for the rating minimum, $25 bet at BJS isn't quite the same as $25 bet at regular blackjack because (a) it's spread over two hands, lowering your variance, and (b) the game is generally slower, with the side bets and clueless players. So I don't blame MGM for putting the minimums where they do.
Your post has interest for me b/c of the odds.
I have done well at 3-Card on and off even though the odds are not suppose to be with me.
we're all in it for the short run-- good for you!!
40-1 are dream odds- hope it happens to you next time!
