Blackjack - Why does luck change with the dealer?

It seems strange, especially when so many tables deal from a shoe. But I've seen it happen and had it happen to me. You're winning or doing okay...then they change dealers and things turn bad almost instantly. 12s and 13s suddenly appear where there had been 19s and 20s. Is there something to this or am I just imagining it?

Luck does seem to change with dealers changing, players coming and going, fresh shoes and even the cocktail waitress but the odds stay the same and the odds always win in the long run. In the short turn I prefer luck.

I do notice that when I play, a new dealer coming in always burns the next card from the shoe. This changes the rest of the shoe. I know one card doesn't mean a lot but it changes the rest of the shoe, as we have noticed.

Good luck and bad luck are like god and devil. They only exist in your mind. If you're having "bad luck," do something else, and the "bad luck" will go away.

I love a new dealer if I'm getting killed, hate the change if I'm on a good run.

Nothing bad like a hot table when they tap in a replacement dealer, I call them: "The Cooler".

I agree with the selective memory. When you're winning its all about your expert play, when you're losing it's just got to be something or someone elses fault!

No question about it, selective memory. Just like how streaks are much more memorable than choppy, up-and-down sessions, or how you always remember when the douchebag on third base makes a bad play and the dealer pulls 21 but never when it goes the other way or doesn't make a difference either way. Your brain is wired to notice patterns.

Besides, what would the explanation be for how a new dealer would change the general pattern of wins and losses?
